1.) Karnataka HC Drops Inquiry Against District Judge After Justice Chelameswar’s
Intervention

The Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari has reportedly
dropped an inquiry initiated against a senior District and Sessions Court Judge,
after Justice J. Chelameswar wrote a scathing letter to Chief Justice of India
Dipak.last week, challenging the propriety of the inquiry which was initiated at
the behest of the Centre. According to a report by The Print, the probe against
Judge P. Krishna Bhat was questioned by Justice J. Chelameswar, who had pointed out
that the Centre had stalled Judge Bhat’s elevation without offering any cogent
reasons for the same, despite the fact that his name had been cleared by the
Supreme Court collegium twice.

2.)Enough Evidence Against Bollywood Producer Karim Morani In Rape Case: Telangana
Police Tell SC

The Telangana Police recently told the Supreme Court that there was enough evidence
against Bollywood producer Karim Morani regarding rape allegations by a Delhi-based
woman. The state’s advocate informed the bench headed by Chief Justice of India
Dipak Misra that the police had filed an affidavit in which it was stated that
charge-sheet has been filed and there was evidence against Morani for committing
the offence.

3.)SC Seeks Centre’s Reply On PIL On Implementation Of AP Reorganisation Act 2014

A Supreme Court Bench of Justice AK Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan on Monday
sought the Centre’s response on a PIL seeking direction to the government for
proper implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 through which
the new state of Telangana was formed. The bench asked Additional Solicitor General
(ASG) Maninder Singh to file a reply in four weeks.
Petitioner P Sudhakar Reddy, Member of Legislative Council and a Congress member,
approached the top court alleging that no action has been taken on several
provisions of the Act, including setting up a separate high court for the new state
of Telangana.

4.) Gorakhpur Hospital Deaths: SC Issues Notice On Oxygen Supplier’s Bail Plea

The Supreme Court recently sought the response from the Uttar Pradesh Government on
a Petition challenging the Allahabad High Court order denying bail to the
proprietor of the firm, Pushpa Sales Pvt. Ltd., which supplied oxygen to a
government.

5.) Centre Files Review Plea Against Judgment Which “Diluted” SC/ST Act

The Centre has recently filed in the Supreme Court a review petition against the
March 20 judgment of a two-judge bench which ‘diluted” the SC/ST (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act by laying down stringent ‘safeguards’ before registering a case
under it and banned automatic arrests.
