ENHANCED VISION SYSTEM II INFRARED CAMERA — REMOVAL / INSTALLATION


1. Enhanced Vision System II Infrared Camera — Removal / Installation
A. General
The Enhanced Vision System (EVS) II infrared camera is located above and behind radome.
This system contains Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) sensitive devices. Ensure ESD approved
practices are followed when touching, removing or installing parts, modules and / or units. See
Electrostatic Discharge - Standard Practices, 20-23-00, Maintenance Practices.
B. Preparation
SPECIAL TOOLS AND TEST EQUIPMENT
Circuit breaker safety clips .................................................................... GSE2400984 or equivalent
Digital low resistance ohmmeter ............................................................ GSE2400764 or equivalent
Fiber optic inspection kit ........................................................................ GSE2020555 or equivalent
Protective caps and plugs .................................................................................................. Standard
Torque wrench, 0 - 75 inch-pounds (0 - 8.47 Nm) ................................ GSE5101145 or equivalent

(2) Aircraft Preparation
(a) Prepare aircraft for safe ground maintenance. See Safe Ground Maintenance
Procedure, 20-00-00, Maintenance Practices.
(b) Pull, tag and safety clip the following circuit breakers:

(c) Pull and collar the following Solid State Power Controllers (SSPCs) (see Solid State
Power Controller - Operation, 20-80-00, Maintenance Practices):

(d) Open and secure radome. See Radome - Open / Close, 53-10-10, Maintenance
Practices.
(e) Remove applicable bird impact plate access panels. See Figure 401 and Bird Impact
Plate - Removal / Installation, 53-10-03, Removal / Installation or Code 531001.
C. Removal
CAUTION: ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS SHALL BE IDENTIFIED WITH LABELS PRIOR TO
REMOVAL TO PREVENT POSSIBLE SYSTEM DAMAGE WHEN CONNECTED.
NOTE: The following numbers in parentheses ( ) are used in conjunction with Figure 402.
(1) Disconnect electrical connector plugs (4) from camera (1).
CAUTION: FAILURE TO INSTALL PROPER PROTECTIVE CAPS AND PLUGS ON
ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS, LINES, TUBES, PORTS AND FITTINGS MAY
RESULT IN DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
FAILURE TO INSTALL PROTECTIVE COVERS ON FIBER OPTICS CABLES
MAY CAUSE SYSTEM FAILURES IF CONNECTORS BECOME DIRTY OR
DAMAGED.
(2) Install protective caps and plugs on all open electrical connectors.
(3) Remove nut (6) and bonding strap (5) from camera (1).
CAUTION: FAILURE TO SUPPORT EVS CAMERA DURING REMOVAL MAY RESULT IN
DAMAGE TO EVS CAMERA.
(4) While supporting camera (1) remove screws (3) and washers (2) securing camera (1) to
mounting surface.
(5) Carefully remove camera (1) from aircraft.
NOTE: The two alignment pins, for the EVS camera, should be located on the aircraft side
and are not interchangeable.
D. Installation
NOTE: The following numbers in parentheses ( ) are used in conjunction with Figure 402.
(1) Ensure camera (1) and mounting surface are clean and free of corrosion. See Electrical
Bonding - Standard Practices, 20-24-00, Maintenance Practices.
(2) Position camera (1) on mounting surface and secure with screws (3) and washers (2).
NOTE: The two alignment pins, for the EVS camera, should be located on the aircraft side
and are not interchangeable.
(3) Torque screws (3) to 50 inch-pounds (5.6 Nm).

(4) Install bonding strap (5) and nut (6) to camera (1).
(5) Remove protective caps and plugs from all electrical connectors.

CAUTION: A MAXIMUM BEND RADIUS OF 20 TIMES CABLE DIAMETER IS ALLOWED


BEFORE FIBER OPTICS IS DAMAGED.
TWISTING OR KINKING FIBER OPTIC CABLING MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO
FIBER OPTICS.
(6) Clean fiber optic cables before mating. See High-speed Fiber Optic - Premating Inspection,
20-27-11, Maintenance Practices.
(7) Connect electrical connector plugs (4) to camera (1).
(8) Using digital low resistance ohmmeter, verify camera (1) is electrically bonded to aircraft
structure. See Electrical Bonding - Standard Practices, 20-24-00, Maintenance Practices.
E. Follow On
(1) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.
(2) Install bird impact plate access panels removed in Step 1.B.(2)(e).
(3) Close and secure radome. See Radome - Open / Close, 53-10-10, Maintenance Practices.
(4) Remove safety clips, tags and close circuit breakers pulled in Step 1.B.(2)(b).
(5) Remove collars and close SSPCs pulled in Step 1.B.(2)(c).
(6) Perform Enhanced Vision System II - Functional Check, 34-29-00, Adjustment / Test or Code
342908.
(7) Record all maintenance actions in accordance with current governing authority.
