DIGITAL AIR DATA COMPUTING — ADJUSTMENT / TEST


1. Air Data Module — Certification
A. General
Compliance with Federal Aviation Requirement (FAR) 91.411 requirement can be accomplished at
an FAA approved test facility without removal of Air Data Modules (ADM) from aircraft.
B. Preparation
(1) Aircraft References

• Air Data System - Functional / Leak Test, 34-13-00, Adjustment / Test or Code 341304
(2) Aircraft Preparation
(a) Prepare aircraft for safe ground maintenance. See Safe Ground Maintenance
Procedure, 20-00-00, Maintenance Practices.
(b) If required, remove ADMs. See Air Data Module - Removal / Installation, 34-12-03,
Removal / Installation or Code 341020.
C. Procedure
(1) Comply with applicable procedure as follows:
• If ADM removed, comply with FAR 91.411 requirement in accordance with
manufacturer instructions at a certified test facility
• If ADM not removed, perform Air Data System - Functional / Leak Test, 34-13-00,
Adjustment / Test or Code 341304
D. Follow On
(1) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.
(2) If removed, install ADM. See Air Data Module - Removal / Installation, 34-12-03, Removal /
Installation or Code 341020.
(3) Record all maintenance actions in accordance with current governing authority.
2. Air Data System — Operational Check
A. General
Air data and air temperature information is shown on Primary Flight Displays (PFD) and
Multifunction Control Display Units (MCDU) as follows:
• Pilot PFD displays air data and air temperature information from Air Data System (ADS) No.
1
• Copilot PFD displays air data and air temperature information from ADS No. 2
• MCDUs display air data and temperature information from each ADS

(2) Aircraft Preparation


(a) Prepare aircraft for safe ground maintenance. See Safe Ground Maintenance
Procedure, 20-00-00, Maintenance Practices.
(b) Apply electrical power to aircraft. See External Electrical Power Application, 20-20-10,
Maintenance Practices.
(c) On Cockpit Overhead Panel (COP) in DISPLAY UNIT CONTROL section, select
switches as follows:
• DU 1 switch NORM
• DU 2 switch NORM
• DU 3 switch NORM
• DU 4 switch NORM
(d) Ensure the following Circuit Breakers (CB) are depressed:

C. Procedure
(1) Check air data input operation of applicable ADMs as follows:
(a) On Display Controller (DC), use BARO knob to set ambient barometric pressure.
(b) On PFD and Navigation Display (ND), comply with the following:
1 Verify the following data indications:
• Airspeed reference displays minimum of 30 knots
• Barometric readout displays ambient barometric pressure set by baro
control
• Altimeter displays current elevation of aircraft
• True airspeed readout displays 0 knots
2 Ensure Static Air Temperature (SAT) and Total Air Temperature (TAT) digital
readouts display ambient air temperature in °C.
(c) On MCDU No. 1 select PROG function key.
(d) On MCDU No. 1 press NEXT function until PROGRESS page 3/3 is displayed.
(e) Select 6L line select key to select AIR DATA and verify the following:
• SAT and TAT digital readouts display ambient air temperature in °C.
(2) Check reversionary operation of applicable ADMs as follows:
(a) On pilot CB panel, pull ADM #1 CB.
(b) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scale displays are red X
• CAS window displays ADS 1 Fail message (blue)
(c) On pilot DC, comply with the following:

1 Select SENSOR push-button ON.


2 At DC Cathrode Ray Tube (CRT), press ADS line select key until ADS 3 is boxed.
(d) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scales are displayed
• Air data source is annunciated
(e) On pilot CB panel, pull ADM #3 CB.
(f) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scale displays are red X
• CAS window displays ADS 3 Fail message (blue)
(g) On pilot CB panel, depress the following CBs:
• ADM #1
• ADM #3
(h) On pilot DC, comply with the following:
1 Select SENSOR push-button ON.
2 At DC CRT, press ADS line select key until ADS 1 is boxed.
(i) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scales are displayed
• Air data source is not annunciated
(j) On copilot CB panel, pull ADM #2 CB.
(k) On copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scale displays are red X
• CAS window displays ADS 2 Fail message (blue)
(l) On copilot DC, comply with the following:
1 Select SENSOR push-button ON.
2 At DC CRT, press ADS line select key until ADS 3 is boxed.
(m) On copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Airspeed and altitude tape scales are displayed
• Air data source is annunciated
(n) On copilot CB panel, depress ADM #2 CB.
D. Follow On
(1) On COP in DISPLAY UNIT CONTROL section, select switches as follows:
• DU 1 switch OFF
• DU 2 switch OFF
• DU 3 switch OFF
• DU 4 switch OFF
(2) Remove electrical power from aircraft. See External Electrical Power Application, 20-20-10,
Maintenance Practices.
(3) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.

(4) Record all maintenance actions in accordance with current governing authority.
3. Digital Air Data Computing System — Functional Check
A. General
Air data and air temperature information from Digital Air Data Computing (DADC) system is
displayed on Primary Flight Displays (PFD) and Multifunction Control Display Units (MCDUs).
B. Preparation

(2) Aircraft Preparation
(a) Prepare aircraft for safe ground maintenance. See Safe Ground Maintenance
Procedure, 20-00-00, Maintenance Practices.
(b) Open and secure radome.
(c) In radome area, place Static Source Error Correction (SSEC) disable switch to
DISABLED position.
NOTE: SSEC is located left of weather R/T.
If SSEC disable switch is not selected to disable prior to applying power,
SSEC 1-2-3 Disabled message will not be displayed on CAS however, SSEC
disabled will be displayed on altitude tapes.
(d) Set up test equipment as follows:
1 Verify calibration date on pitot / static tester is current.
NOTE: Pitot / static tester must be warmed up prior to testing.
2 Install all four PTAs and their accompanying external test hoses to left and right
upper and lower pitot probes.
(e) Ensure L / R main gear WOW switches are in ground mode (switch cams depressed).
NOTE: If aircraft is on jacks, GSE3200907 main landing gear WOW switch
adjustment tool is the only authorized tool to put this system in ground
configuration mode.
(f) Apply electrical power to aircraft. See External Electrical Power Application, 20-20-10,
Maintenance Practices.
(g) Ensure the following Circuit Breakers (CB) are depressed:

(h) Place flaps to 0°.


(i) On Cockpit Overhead Panel (COP) in DISPLAY UNIT CONTROL section, select
switches as follows:
• DU 1 switch NORM
• DU 2 switch NORM
• DU 3 switch NORM
• DU 4 switch NORM
(j) On IRS MODE SELECT panel, comply with the following:
1 Select Inertial Reference System (IRS) switches as follows:
• IRS 1 switch on (depressed)
• IRS 2 switch on (depressed)
• IRS 3 switch on (depressed)
2 Verify Inertial Reference Unit (IRU) No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 align to present
position.
(k) On Standby Flight Display (SFD), set barometric pressure to 29.92.
(l) On all three Air Data Systems (ADS), set barometric pressure to 29.92 by performing
the following:
1 On both pilot / copilot Display Controller (DC), comply with the following:
a Select SENSOR push-button ON.
b At DC Cathrode Ray Tube (CRT), press ADS line select key until 1 is
boxed.
NOTE: When checking No. 2 system, 2 will be boxed.
When checking No. 3 system, 3 will be boxed.
c Depress BARO set knob for STD ON.
2 On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify on-side displayed barometric pressure
indicates 29.92.
3 On both pilot / copilot DC, rotate BARO set knob in both directions and confirm
barometric setting increments / decrements accordingly on PFDs.
4 Leave barometric setting on 29.92 for both DCs.
5 Repeat Step 3.B.(2)(l)1 and Step 3.B.(2)(l)4 for ADS No. 2 and No. 3.
(m) On pilot / copilot DC, comply with the following:
1 Select SENSOR push-button ON, then comply with the following at DC CRT:
a Select ADS line select key as follows:
• Pilot: ADS 1 boxed
• Copilot: ADS 2 boxed
b Verify on-side sensors are selected.

2 Select DISP push-button ON.


3 At DC CRT, ensure METRIC ALT is not selected.
(n) On Display Unit (DU) No. 3, verify SSEC 1-2-3 Disabled message (amber) is displayed
on CAS.
NOTE: If SSEC disable switch was not selected to disable prior to applying power,
SSEC 1-2-3 Disabled message will not be displayed on CAS however, SSEC
disabled will be displayed on altitude tapes.
C. Procedure
(1) On test set, increase simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values:
• Altitude 5000 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 120 knots
(2) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 5000 feet (±35)
• Airspeed tape displays 120 knots (±2)
(3) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 5000 feet (±40)
• Airspeed tape displays 120 knots (±3)
(4) At pilot DC, comply with the following:
(a) Select SENSOR push-button ON.
(b) At DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 3 is boxed.
(5) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 5000 feet (±35)
• Airspeed tape displays 120 knots (±2)
(6) At test set, increase simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values:
• Altitude 10,000 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 320 knots
(7) Verify an overspeed aural warning tone occurs when passing through 250 knots (+3).
(8) At pilot DC, comply with the following:
(a) Select SENSOR push-button ON.
(b) At DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 2 is boxed.
(9) Verify overspeed warning tone is audible over cockpit speakers.
(10) At pilot DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 1 is boxed.
(11) Verify overspeed warning tone is audible over cockpit speakers.
(12) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 10,000 feet (±40)
• Airspeed tape displays 320 knots (±3)
(13) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 10,000 feet (±40)

• Airspeed tape displays 320 knots (±3)


(14) At test set, increase simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values:
• Altitude 25,000 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 220 knots
(15) On both pilot / copilot PFD and SFD, verify the following:
• Altitude is increasing
• Vertical speed indication (PFDs / SFD) displays 3000 feet per minute (±150)
• Airspeed decreases and overspeed warning tone no longer audible over speakers as
airspeed descends below 250 knots
(16) At 16,500 feet displayed altitude, comply with the following:
(a) On COP in EXTERIOR LTS section, select switches as follows:
• L LDG LT switch ON (depressed)
• R LDG LT switch ON (depressed)
(b) Verify the following:
• Left and right landing switch lights come on (blue)
• Left and right landing lights are on
(17) At 17,900 feet (±100) displayed altitude verify the following:
• Left and right landing switch lights go out
• Left and right landing lights go out
(18) On COP in EXTERIOR LTS section, select switches as follows:
• L LDG LT switch off (extended)
• R LDG LT switch off (extended)
CAUTION: PULLING COMBINED WOW CB WITH APU IN OPERATION WILL CAUSE
OVERTEMPERATURE CONDITION AND DAMAGE APU.
(19) On pilot CB panel in FLT CTRL / HYD section, pull COMBINED WOW CB.
NOTE: If APU is operating, it must be shut down prior to pulling CB or otherwise placing
aircraft in air mode. If aircraft is placed in air mode with APU running, an
overtemperature condition will occur causing damage APU.
Pulling Combined WOW CB enables SSEC. Test set indications may not be same
as aircraft. This will require additional test set input to reach desired altitude on
aircraft display.
(20) On Flight Guidance Panel (FGP), comply with the following:
(a) Select A/P push-button ON.
(b) Set ALTITUDE to 25,000 feet using altitude selector knob.
(21) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify Altitude Select (ASEL) annunciation (white) is displayed.
(22) As altitude reaches 24,000 feet, verify the following:
• Altitude alert tone is audible for approximately 2 seconds
• On both PFDs, ASEL capture (boxed) is annunciated (green)
• On VGS, ASEL is annunciated and boxed

(23) As altitude approaches 24,800 feet, verify altitude alert tone is audible for approximately 2
seconds.
(24) As 25,000 feet is reached, verify the following:
• ASEL capture mode is canceled
• On FGP, ALT HLD-ON switch light is illuminated (green) indicating altitude hold mode is
engaged
• On both PFDs, ALT is annunciated green
• On VGS, ALT is displayed and boxed
(25) At test set, comply with the following:
(a) Increase altitude to 25,300 feet as seen on PFD and verify altitude alert tone is audible
while passing through 25,200 feet.
(b) Return altitude to 25,000 feet as seen on PFD.
(26) On FGP, press ALT HLD push-button ON.
(27) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 25,000 feet (±75)
• Airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
• Mach indication displays 0.53 (±0.01)
(28) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 25,000 feet (±75)
• Airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
• Mach indication displays 0.53 (±0.01)
(29) At pilot DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 3 is boxed.
(30) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Pilot altimeter displays 25,000 feet (±75)
• Pilot airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
(31) At pilot DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 1 is boxed.
(32) On pilot control wheel, select AP DISC switch and verify autopilot disengages.
NOTE: Contact local ATC authority to obtain test transponder codes.
(33) On MCDU No. 1, select Transponder (XPDR) 1 as follows:
(a) Select RADIO menu key.
(b) Enter test transponder code in scratchpad, then press 5R line select key on RADIO 1/2
page to enter XPDR code.
(c) Select 5R line select key to enter ATC 1/1 page.
(d) Verify or select ATC 1 by using 3L line select key under XPDR SEL.
(e) Verify or select ALT mode ON by selecting 3R line select key.
(f) Select 6R line select key to return to RADIO 1/2 page.
(g) Select 6R line select key and verify ALT-ON is highlighted green next to 6R line select
key and STBY annunciation extinguishes on PFD No. 1 and PFD No. 2.
(h) Select 5R line select key twice to enter ATC1 1/1 page.

(i) Verify ADS 1 is selected and a pressure altitude of 25,000 feet is being displayed.
(34) On pilot CB panel, pull ADM #3 CB.
(35) On copilot CB panel, pull ADM #2 CB.
(36) On DU No. 3, verify ADS 2 - 3 Fail messages appear on CAS.
(37) On MCDU No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3, verify ATC 1 info and 25,000 feet is displayed altitude on
ATC 1 1/1 page.
(38) Select 6R line select key to return to RADIO 1/2 page.
(39) At pilot control column, press and release IDENT switch.
(40) On MCDU No. 1, IDENT is annunciated green for approximately 17 seconds next to active
transponder code.
(41) On transponder test set, IDENT indicator is displayed.
(42) At copilot control column, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation /
indication as Step 3.C.(40) and Step 3.C.(41).
(43) On MCDU No. 1, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation / indication
as Step 3.C.(40) and Step 3.C.(41).
(44) On MCDU No. 2, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation / indication
as Step 3.C.(40) and Step 3.C.(41).
(45) On pilot CB panel, depress ADM #3 CB and pull ADM #1 CB.
(46) On pilot DC, select ADS 3 and verify ADS 3 SEL on MCDU 1, 2, 3.
(47) On transponder test set, verify 25,000 is displayed.
(48) On MCDU No. 2, select ATC No. 1 altitude reporting to OFF and verify tester altitude is blank.
(49) On MCDU No. 2, make the following ATC No. 2 selections:
(a) On RADIO 1/2 page, press 5R line select key twice to enter ATC 1 1/1 page.
(b) Select ATC 2 by selecting 3R line select key.
(c) Select 6R line select key to return to RADIO 1/2 page.
(d) Select 6R line select key to select ON.
(e) Select 5R line select key twice to enter ATC 1 1/1 page.
(f) Verify or select ALT mode ON.
(g) Verify Altitude of 25,000 feet is being displayed.
(h) Select 6R line select key to return to RADIO 1/2 page.
(50) At pilot control column, press and release IDENT switch.
(51) On MCDU No. 2, IDENT is annunciated green for approximately 17 seconds next to active
transponder code.
(52) On transponder test set, IDENT indicator is displayed.
(53) At copilot control column, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation /
indication as Step 3.C.(51) and Step 3.C.(52).
(54) On MCDU No. 1, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation / indication

as Step 3.C.(51) and Step 3.C.(52).


(55) On MCDU No. 2, press and release IDENT switch and verify same annunciation / indication
as Step 3.C.(51) and Step 3.C.(52).
(56) On copilot CB panel, depress ADM #2 CB.
(57) On pilot CB panel, pull ADM #3 CB.
(58) On pilots display controller, select ADS 2.
(59) On MCDU No. 2, verify 25,000 feet is displayed.
(60) On pilot CB panel, depress ADM #1 CB.
(61) On copilot CB panel, depress ADM #3 CB.
(62) At either DC, comply with the following:
(a) Select SENSOR push-button ON.
(b) At DC CRT, press FGC line select key until 2 is boxed.
(63) On FGP, select PFD-CMD push-button until R switch light is on.
(64) Open internal baggage door.
(65) On DU No. 3, verify Internal Baggage Door message (amber) is not displayed on CAS.
(66) At test set, comply with the following:
(a) Adjust simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values as viewed on the PFD:
• Altitude 40,500 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 220 knots
(b) On DU No. 3, verify Internal Baggage Door message (amber) appears on CAS
approximately 4½ minutes after aircraft altitude passes through 40,000 feet.
(67) Close internal baggage door.
(68) On DU No. 3, verify Internal Baggage Door message (amber) is no longer displayed on CAS.
(69) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 40,500 feet (±125)
• Airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
(70) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 40,500 feet (±125)
• Airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
(71) At test set, adjust simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values as viewed on the
PFD:
• Altitude 41,100 feet at a vertical speed of 1500 feet per minute
• Airspeed 220 knots
CAUTION: OPERATION OF FUEL BOOST PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL MAY CAUSE
DAMAGE TO FUEL PUMPS.
(72) On COP in FUEL SYSTEM section, comply with requirements in the following table:
NOTE: Fuel boost pump operation is limited to a maximum of 1 minute continuous or 4
minutes cumulative in a dry (no fuel) condition.

Prior to proceeding, familiarize yourself with requirements in below table to minimize


fuel boost pump operation.
The following messages shall be disregarded:
• L - R Fuel Pressure Low message (red)
• L - R Main / Alternate Pump Fail message (amber)

(73) At test set, adjust simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values as viewed on the
PFD:
• Altitude 45,000 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 200 knots
(74) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify following:
• Altimeter displays 45,000 feet (±125)
• Airspeed tape displays 200 knots (±3)
(75) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 45,000 feet (±125)
• Airspeed tape displays 200 knots (±3)
(76) Verify SFD agrees with ADS No. 2 within 340 feet.
(77) At test set, increase simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values:
• Altitude 51,000 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 190 knots
(78) On FGP, perform the following:
(a) Set ALTITUDE select window to 51,000.
(b) Select A/P push-button ON.
(79) On PFDs, verify ASEL is annunciated white.
(80) On both pilot / copilot PFD and SFD, verify the following:

• Altitude increasing to 51,000 feet


• Airspeed increasing to 190 knots
(81) When altitude reaches 50,000 feet, verify the following:
• Altitude alert tone is audible for approximately 2 seconds
• On PFDs, ASEL capture (boxed) is annunciated (green)
(82) When altitude reaches 51,000 feet, verify the following:
• ASEL capture mode is canceled
• On FGP, ALT HLD-ON switch light is ON (green) indicating altitude hold mode is
engaged
• On PFDs, ALT is annunciated green
(83) On copilot control wheel, select AP DISC switch and verify autopilot disengages and autopilot
disconnect tone is not audible with overspeed tone.
(84) On both pilot / copilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 51,000 feet (±140)
• Airspeed tape displays 190 knots (±2)
• Mach indication displays 0.81 (±0.01)
(85) On SFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 51,000 feet (±140)
• Airspeed tape displays 190 knots (±2)
• Mach indication displays 0.81 (±0.01)
(86) On pilot DC, comply with the following:
(a) Select SENSOR push-button ON.
(b) At DC CRT, press ADS line select key until 3 is boxed.
(87) On pilot PFD, verify the following:
• Altimeter displays 51,000 feet (±140)
• Airspeed tape displays 220 knots (±3)
(88) At test set, decrease simulated altitude and airspeed to the following values:
• Altitude 0 feet at a vertical speed of 3000 feet per minute
• Airspeed 150 knots
(89) At test set, decrease simulated airspeed to 0 knots.
D. Follow On
(1) On IRS MODE SELECT panel, select switches as follows:
• IRS 1 switch OFF (extended)
• IRS 2 switch OFF (extended)
• IRS 3 switch OFF (extended)
(2) On COP in DISPLAY UNIT CONTROL section, select switches as follows:
• DU 1 switch OFF
• DU 2 switch OFF
• DU 3 switch OFF
• DU 4 switch OFF

(3) On pilot CB panel in FLT CTRL / HYD section, depress COMBINED WOW CB.
(4) In radome, select SSEC disable switch to normal position (down).
(5) Remove electrical power from aircraft. See External Electrical Power Application, 20-20-10,
Maintenance Practices.
(6) Remove all test equipment from aircraft.
(7) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.
(8) Close and secure radome.
(9) Record all maintenance actions in accordance with current governing authority.
