Analysis

The entire story talks about Don Rafael’s grave were the parish priest ordered the grave digger to
transfer the remains of Don Rafael. The grave digger doesn’t feel guilty in his action because he
believes he had to follow the priest’s order. During the time of Rizal, the Chinese were looked
down upon and therefore having someone buried where their dead lay was a form of dishonor.

Noli Me tangere Chapter 42 “The Espadanas”

Characters: Capitan Tiago Dona Victorina Maria Clara Don Tiburcio Linares Fr. Damaso and
Salvi

Analysis:

The characters in this story they tried to affiliate themselves with the town’s most influential
figures. Especially Dona Victorina a social climber whom Capitan tiago used to loved. But all
she wanted to have Spaniard husband and proposed to her to secure financial support. In this
present times, some Filipino would like to marry a foreigner they thought this is the key to
escape in poverty to have a better life.

El Filibuterismo Chapter 17 “The Kiapo Fair”

, Mr. Leeds , Padre Irene, Padre Salvi and Simoun

Analysis

This chapter describe the beauty of Filipina woman that should be respected by anyone and
being artistic of Filipino . Then Rizal made a comparison between the friars and filipino priest
which he describe much better on the side of Filipino priest rather than friars full of lust and
gluttony. It was mentioned in the story about the Philippine Press it represent the journalism here
in our country in old-fashioned way, lack of truth in reporting or fake news and freedom of
speech but benzayb didn’t know it was pertaining to him.
