How to replace the brake

shoes of rear drum brake on


TOYOTA YARIS XP10

Carry out replacement in the following order:

Replace brake pads on Toyota Yaris XP10 in pairs for each


axle. It ensures efficient braking

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts.

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Remove the rear wheels.

Fully lower the parking brake lever.

Remove the brake drum

Remove the lower return spring of brake shoes.

Remove the brake shoes hold-down pins.

Pull both brake shoes with the adjuster from the


working brake cylinder, avoiding damage to the
boots. Remove both shoes from the mounting
bracket.

Don't press the brake pedal after removing the rear brake
drum shoes. This will cause the piston to fall out of the brake
cylinder, leakage of brake fluid and depressurization of the
system.

Clean the brake backplate on Toyota Yaris XP10.

Disconnect the parking brake cable.

Install the upper retaining springs and adjustment


mechanism on new brake shoes.

Connect the parking brake cable to the parking


brake lever.

Install the brake shoes on the working brake


cylinder on the bracket and on the brake-support
plate bracket.

Install the brake shoes hold-down pins.

Install lower return springs Using the regulating mechanism, adjust the gap
of the drum brake shoes.

Install a brake drum. Install the wheel.

Adjust the brake fluid level in the expansion tank.

Slow down smoothly for first 150-200 km after the brake


pads replacement. Avoid unneccessary and sharp braking to
a stop.

Lower the car and working in a cross order,


tighten the wheel bolts.
