ABSTRACT

The Perspective of Senior High School Student on Social Media

This research aims to know what are the Perspective of Senior High School

Student on Social Media. Specifically this study seeks answers to the following

questions:

1) What are the negative perspective of students have on social media?

2) What are the positive perspective of students have on social media?

3) In what way does social media can affect according to participants?

The research method adopted for the study was a Phenomenology. Because it The

discipline of phenomenology may be defined initially as the study of structures of

experience, or consciousness. Literally, phenomenology is the study of “phenomena”:

appearances of things, or things as they appear in our experience, or the ways we

experience things, thus the meaning things have in our experience. That means this

research method is actually adept to the research that we conduct.

The respondents in this research are the students of Grades 12 Gas Strand of

senior high school of Nabua National High School where 10 students are picked

randomly to answer our interview. 4 students on Gas D, 3 students on Gas B, and 4

students on Gas A. 6 girls and 4 boys where the ones who answered it. Ranging from

age of 17-20 5 students and 5 students ranging from age 20-25.

The research method adopted for the study was a descriptive interview. This design

is Considered apt because it enables the researcher to generate data through the
standardized Collection procedures based on highly structured research instrument(s)

and well defined Study concepts and related variables.

The researcher collected the needed data through the use of Interview questionnaire

and its Administration in the selected faculties. The administration of the interview

questionnaire were Carried out by the researcher. A total of 10 copies of the

questionnaire were distributed to elicit responses from the students and retrieved on the

spot by the researcher.

The findings of this study and earlier ones showed some noteworthy results. 1). The

first variable influencing the academic performance of students, that is, social media

participation was negatively affects the students’ outcome it becomes that students are

depending more and more on social media that’s why they are being lazy on studying

and not doing what they need to do as a student. 2). the other variables were positively

related with students’ outcome because students gain benefits from using social media

platforms in terms of studying, they can get a lot of information from this platforms so

they will be at ease on doing some projects and activities. 3).The results of this study

suggest that lecturers should come up with a template on how their students can

maximize the benefits of Social media, that school management should incorporate

rules and regulations on the use of the social media in the school and, that the

government should put in place adequate control measures to regulate their use among

students and lecturers.

The result from the findings of this study showed that, 1). Social media have

negative Effects on teenagers such as lack of privacy, distracting students from their

academic work, Taking most of their productive time, and such like,2). they also have
benefits and can be used Appropriately. For instance, students can form online

communities in order to plan for a Project, have group discussions about class material,

or use the Social networking Sites(SNS) as a way to keep in contact when a student

who has been absent needs to be Updated on current academic information. 3). This

social media platforms are like a tool that needs to be properly used and not to be

abused because it might affect us negatively when used in a wrong way and can benefit

us from using it on a right way so on using social media we need to be properly aware

of the consequences that we will getting into.

In the light of the findings of this study, the following recommendations are made:

1. Students should better manage their study time in and prevent distractions that

can Be provided by the social media. There should be a decrease in the number

of time Spent by students on social media.

2. The students should create a balance between chit-chatting and academic

activities. More attention should be directed to research.

3. The use of Social media by students should focus on the academic relevance of

those sites instead of using them for negative purposes.
