Nature of Mathematics

 Odd Numbers
- These are whole numbers that cannot be divisible exactly into pairs.
Ex. 3,5,7,9,11,13…

 Even Numbers
- These are numbers that can be divided exactly or evenly by 2.
Ex. 2,4,6,8,10,12…

 Real Numbers
- these are number that can be found on the number line. These are the numbers that we
normally use and apply in real-world applications.

Types of Real Numbers

 Integers

- Whole numbers either negative, positive or zero, not a fraction or does not have
decimal point.
Ex. 3,2,1,0, -1, -2, -3, …

 Rational Numbers

- these are numbers that can be written as a ratio of two integers. It can be a fraction, an
integer, a whole number, or even a natural number.
- It is expressed by p/q where both p and q are integers, and q is not equal to 0.
Ex. 55/100=0.55

 Irrational Numbers

- cannot be expressed as a ratio between two numbers and it cannot be written as a

simple fraction because there is not a finite number of numbers when written as a
decimal. Instead, the numbers in the decimal would go on forever, without repeating.
Ex. π ,√ 2,φ

 Natural Numbers

-  These are the numbers used to count physical things. We use the symbol N to denote them.
Ex. 1, 2, 3, 4, …
