Response Essay
A report published on the Daily Star by Akram Hossen raised the issue of increasing violence
and cruelty against children. Hitherto, parents were the protector of the children from any evil
thing from outside world, but recently depressed parents are not the safe house for their
children anymore. The report shows that social surroundings, television programme and
unhappy conjugal life leads to depression of the parents that results in violent outburst. I
agree to the facts stated in this report about how these things have been increasing violence
against children.

Depression takes control over human decision and make them do negative things. Due to TV
shows, harsh reality of life may seem too harsh. Wealth and lavish life shown on TV shows
has made reality tough to bear. These thing can be depressing and are resulting in violence.
Moreover, children actually fall victim of mental stress of their parents caused by their
unhappy conjugal married life. There is no measure to stop mental stress of the parents in our
society.

I think it is very disturbing how parents can be harmful for a child. Children are weaker and
vulnerable, that does not make them an object to vent anger. Mental health should be
recognized in our society and proper measure to handle pressure should be there for every
parents. Parents need to control their emotions and treat their children with care. Govt.
agencies, NGO’s as well the parents themselves need to promote positive changes so that the
scenario can change.
