The SAT250 SCALA process control system consists of several software

packages that communicate with each other via TCP/IP.

The most important programs are:

● SCADA Server
● SCADA Client (multiple instances can be present in the system)
● CAE250 Server and Client
● Bildeditor (Dynadraw)
● OPM

2.1. SCADA Server

The software program SCADA Server forms the heart of the SAT250 SCALA
process control system.

It has the following functionalities and characteristics:

● Communication with the automation system (PKO)

● Stores a current process image of all values and states (PMO)
● Archiving- and evaluation functions (ARV)
● All conventional SCADA functionalities such as: Value Operation,
Adaptations, Formulae etc.

● Preparation of the data for visualization (VIS)

● Coupling to third-party software and external databases (RSI)
● "Hot Standby" redundancy.

RSI (Remote SCADA Interface)

With RSI, the SAT250 SCALA provides a universally applicable interface, over
which the various software applications can exchange data with the SCADA
Server.

Typical applications that communicate with the SCADA Server over RSI are
e.g.: the SCADA Client, SQL database coupling (RSI-SQL), etc.

"Hot Standby" redundancy

The same SCADA Server Software is installed on two physically separated

computers.

● Both components are supplied input-side completely parallel with data.

● Both components execute all processing autonomous and parallel.
● Only the process-managing component forwards commands (signals) to the
peripherals.

● The Voting, in other words, which component takes over the process
management, can be realized by means of the software (via Ethernet
connection and additional serial connection) or via an external hardware
module (SCA).

2.2. SCADA Client

The visualization component SCADA Client can be present several times in

the total system.

It is supplied with conditioned values and currently represented Stati of the

process variables by the SCADA Server over the RSI Schnittstelle and
displays these as

● Alphanumerical values and states

● Symbols
● Curves and bars etc.
For this, the necessary

● process picture
● the logics information
● the symbol- and character sets
only exist locally on the SCADA Client, so that only value and Status must be
provided from SCADA Server.

2.3. Pictureditor (Dynadraw)

Used for generating the process pictures

● Creation of standardized objects (e.g..: circuit breaker, disconnector, etc.)

● Creation of the resources to be used (colors, patterns, status tables, dynamic
processing etc.)

● Linking the picture elements with the data of the SCADA Servers
(Dynamizing)

The picture editor thereby supports modern approaches such as inheritance,

object orientation etc.

2.4. CAE 250

The software component CAE 250 consists of the CAE Server and the
CAE Clients. Together they form the parameter-side backbone of the total
system. From a technical perspective, it has to do with a large database in
which all SAT250 SCALA relevant parameter settings are stored.

Amongst other things, the CAE has the following tasks:

● Parameters necessary for the SCADA Server (e.g.: User Management,

Buffer sizes etc.) are managed

● Archives can be created, edited and saved

● Input of calculation rules (formulae etc.)
● View of all data points available in the system. (editing in the
parameterization tool OPM).

● etc.
The entire parameterization is then checked for data consistency through
complex generators and if successful, is loaded in the running process control
system ("consistency check and load").

The CAE Server itself thereby only exists one time in the total system (with
redundant plants as well as with multi-hierarchical systems).
The CAE Clients, the input interfaces for the CAE, can be started many times.

The CAE 250 is only necessary for the parameterization. For normal
operation, no connection is required.

2.5. OPM II

The engineering component OPM is used for the data modeling of the process
data used in the total system, therefore for SAT250 SCALA and the
automation system.

The OPM has the following functions and characteristics:

● object-orientated data processing

● utilization of resulting repeat effects
● automatic inheritance of process model changes to the entire project
● distribution of the modeled data in the system
● Import and export of process data
● Bulk editing
