Q3: A persons intellect may determine his or her understanding of illness,

life-style changes and hospitalization ( Discuss that by Intellectual Domain)?

Intellectual domain :
The intellectual domain is also known as the cognitive domain. It focuses on how children
process their surroundings and solve problems. Counting and math skills, organization,
imagination and creative thinking fall into this domain.

Activities to support Intellectual Domain:

 Infants – Reading to them and pointing out simple shapes, colors and counting things is
helpful to help children understand these concepts.

 Toddlers – Making and identifying shapes during play, organizing toys during cleanup by
color and encouraging them to count.

 Preschoolers – Engage in simple mathematics like simple addition and subtraction in

daily routines as well as measuring things.

Intellectual Domain influenced by environmental, psychological and

biological domain:
 It has been hypothesized that stress may lead to cognitive decline through mechanisms
such as dysregulation of hormones (e.g., cortisol) and increased production of
proinflammatory cytokines which can impair the neural structure and function
implicated in cognitive performance. Alternatively, the Cognitive Health and
Environment Life Course Model posits that environmental, demographic, lifestyle, and
genetic factors are moderated by diseases risk factors such as stress and cardio
metabolic risk factors, which in turn are associated with medical conditions (e.g.,
depression, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases) that can increase the risk for
cognitive decline.

 This lifestyle-based approach is consistent with the re-direction in age-related cognition

research from cure-based experimentation toward investigating cognitive and
behavioral risk factors that may affect hippocampal volume and associated cognitive
deficits .While larger hippocampal volume correlates with good cognitive health,
decreases in hippocampal volume correlate with age-related cognitive deficit and
increased risk of conversion to Alzheimer's Disease.
