Introductory letter to parents or guardians

Dear Parents or Guardians,

Let me introduce myself. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in
Science, and I am looking forward to a new school term as your child’s teacher. This year
will be exciting and enjoyable for all of us. We will cover many units relating to science in
preparation for the successful completion of the state’s standardized tests next spring. I
have planned many activities throughout the course of the year that are designed to help
your child succeed academically, not only this year but also in the future.
Students and their parents or guardians are naturally curious about the amount and types
of homework to be assigned this term. There will be homework assignments on Monday
through Thursday nights. You should expect to see your child spending about thirty
minutes reviewing, reading, working on projects, or studying. A copy of the weekly
schedule will be given to each student to keep in his or her binder as well as posted on
canvas. In addition, students are expected to copy the objective, agenda, and homework
into their assignment notebook at the start of class each day.
Homework, assessments, and other assignments will be graded using a grading point scale.
I find that using this grading system reflects the student’s mastery over skills and
knowledge effectively. On weekends, I will make no formal assignments, but students can
use this time to read, do research, and work on projects. If students do not have their
homework for the day, they can make it up however, 15 points will be deducted every day
that it is late. I expect students to turn work in on time. If there is a problem, please let me
know so that I can help your child. The first time as assignment is not completed, I will
speak with your child. After that, I will contact you directly when assignments are not
completed on time. Also, if students do not do well on a test, I will give them the
opportunity to redo the assessment. I expect students to come into class with their materials
and ready to start the day. It is important for students to be prepared which can help them
be successful.
When you have questions or wish to talk with me about your child, please feel free to email
me at sammygon.weebly.com.

I am looking forward to working with my new students this year. I am also looking
forward to meeting you and working with you to help your child succeed.
Best wishes,
Ms. Gonzales
