Mahsuri was a beautiful lady who lived in Padang Matsirat, Langkawi Island a long
time ago. She was married to Wan Darus, a warrior. One day, Wan Darus had to go to
war. While he was away, Mahsuri became friends with a young man named Deraman.
Many of the women in Mahsuri’s village were jealous of her beauty. One of the women
was Wan Mahora. She was the wife of the village chief and also Mahsuri’s sister-in-
law.

Wan Mahora started a rumour saying that Mahsuri was having an affair with
Deraman while her husband was away. Soon, the entire village believed the rumour and
turned against Mahsuri. Although Mahsuri said she was innocent, no one believed her.
The village headman sentenced her to death. Mahsuri was tied to a pole. When she was
stabbed with a keris, white blood flowed from her body. The villagers finally realised
that mahsuri was indeed innocent and regretted their action. Just before Mahsuri died,
she put a curse on the village. They would have bad luck for seven generations.

Jamaica is the pearl of the Antilles which is located at the Caribbean Sea. The weather in
Jamaica is the main reason why so many tourists flock to this beautiful island. The hottest
month is the summer month of August. The average temperature for the summer is 33 °C. It
is also the best time in Jamaica to just relax on the beach, play beach volley ball, get a tan, or
just go on a few excursions. Jamaica has over 600 insect species as well as 250 bird species-
25 of which belong only to Jamaica. About 120 species of butterflies, including the world's
largest (with a 6-inch wingspan), are also found here. The island is especially known for its
fireflies, otherwise known as blinkies or peeny-waullies.
