Torre de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal

Originally built to protect the city from enemies who came by sea, this was commissioned to be
built in the 15th century by King John II and finished under the reign of King Manuel I in 1521.
The tower is constructed in Manueline style – a mix of Gothic architecture with maritime
elements.
