Abstract:
It is essential to know the looper mechanism to stitch accurate stitches on the fabric. In this experiment,
we have seen the needle bar and crank shaft mechanism.

Theory:
Timing belt
A timing belt, or cam belt (informal usage), is a part of an internal combustion
engine that controls the timing of the engine's valves. Some engines, like the flat-4
Volkswagen air cooled engine, and the straight-6 Toyota F engine use timing gears.
Timing belts replace the older style timing chains that were in common usage until the
1970s and 1980s (although in the last decade there has been some reemergence of
chain use)
Pulley:
A pulley, also called a sheave or a drum, is a mechanism composed of a wheel on an
axle or shaft that may have a groove between two flanges around its circumference.[1]
A rope, cable, belt, or chain usually runs over the wheel and inside the groove, if
present. Pulleys are used to change the direction of an applied force, transmit
rotational motion, or realize a mechanical advantage in either a linear or rotational
system of motion. It is one of the six simple machines. Two or more pulleys together
arecalled a block and tackle.
3
Bushings:
Bushings are used for holding the shaft firmly and allowing it to rotate without
smallest resistance.these are the bushings in the figure.
Objective:
To know the needle bar and crank shaft mechanism.
Apparatus:
Screw drivers, flat lock machine.
Procedure:
Pulley is attached On the main shaft, next fan is there for cooling .
Then comes the set plate and bushing. After bushing rack gear is present. This
is lower gear.
A timing belt or synchronus belt is connected with lower gear and it provides
the power to needle bar shaft upper portion of the machine.
4
On the upper shaft there is a hand wheel, which has pulley and fan in it.
Then comes upper gear where timing belt is cinnected. Then this shaft is
connected with cams and crank shaft with the help of joint.
Then comes the connecting rod which connects the needle bar with the help of
needle bar clamp.needle holder holds 3 needles.
Conclusion:
These parts and there arrangement must be known for machine maintainance and for
improvement of production efficiency.
