 Abstract:
This test method covers the determination of the yarn number of all types of cotton,
woolen, worsted, and man-made fiber yarns taken from packages; or from any textile
fabrics in which the yarns are intact and can be removed in measurable lengths. The
test method is not applicable to yarns taken from napped or cut pile fabrics. Because
this method is based on short-length specimens, the results should only be considered
as approximations of yarn number.

 Theory:
The yarn count expresses the thickness of the yarn, and must be known before
calculating the quantity of yarns for a known length of fabric. The yarn count number
indicates the length of yarn in relation to the weight.

Principle:
Simply take the same kenght of yarns and weigh them and put in formula.

Objective:
 To calculate sized warp yarn count of the given fabric.

APPARATUS:
Rule marked, , scissor and fabric sample.

Procedure:
 Ten warp yarns are drawn from the given fabric.
 Measure the length of these yarns and make them 10 inch long.
 Then lea is made and its weight is measured in digital wight balance.
 Then these values are put in the formulas and count is calculated.

Measurements & Calcutaions

Weight = .0835g

= .0835 x 15.43

= 1.288 g

Length = 10inch

= 10 x 10/36 yards

 = 2.77 yards

Count = 8.33 x L/W

= 8.33 x 2.77/1.288

= 17.96 Ne

Conclusion:
Count of the warp yarn is 17.96 Ne.
