Thank you for purchasing the best investment that you could make in an Electric Vehicle… fast
charging capability!!!

JdeMO™ for the Mercedes Benz B-Class ED (B250e) will enable DC fast charging at over 22,000
CHAdeMO protocol charge stations worldwide. Typically, the car will recharge in about 30-45
minutes.

The following installation instructions are intended for experienced automotive technicians with
additional experience and training with deadly high voltage electricity. Please heed all warnings
contained herein.

1) Before starting, verify that you have the correct JdeMO™ kit for your particular
Tesla onboard vehicle charger

a. GEN1 Tesla onboard chargers use a 12 pin connector

b. GEN2 Tesla onboard chargers use a 20 pin connector

2) Prepare the vehicle to be raised on an automotive lift, or with ramps that are
adequate to access the bottom of the vehicle while using tools. Because the
vehicle will be disabled during work, it won’t be possible to drive the vehicle
onto ramps later. Ensure that the ground is solid and level for safety.

3) Once the vehicle is in


position for safe work:

a. Turn the vehicle OFF

b. Roll down both front


windows

c. Set vehicle parking


brake to MAXIMUM

d. Place vehicle keys in


cup holder, or other
location as directed

e. Chock wheels to
prevent rolling

Use an adequate lift for the job – safety first !!!

4) Prepare the work area with a table, any
lighting required, plus the JdeMO™ parts
and tools. Suggested tools are:

a. Ramps, jacks, or lifts as necessary to


raise the vehicle

b. Anti-seize compound for stainless


steel bolts. Stainless bolts are particularly
prone to breaking without anti-seize

Unpack the JdeMO™ parts to be installed c. Power tools as required

5) Disconnect the 12 volt battery

a. Requires 10mm wrench or socket

b. Remove the positive and negative 12 volt


cables from the 12 volt AGM battery

c. NOTE: use only a sealed AGM, Lithium, or


other sealed 12 volt battery

d. DO NOT USE A CONVENTIONAL LEAD-


ACID BATTERY

e. If the battery is more than 3 years old,


consider replacing it with a new one Use a 10mm wrench or socket to
remove 12 volt battery cables

6) Remove battery tray and associated
hardware

a. Remove (3) 13mm hex head bolts

b. Remove metal battery clamp

c. Remove 12 volt AGM battery

d. Remove plastic battery tray

e. Remove metal tray with (4) 13mm hex


head bolts, plus (1) 8mm hex head bolt or
appropriate sized E-Torx head bolt

f. The battery tray hardware will not be


reused

g. Remove (2) 10mm hex head nuts


Remove 12 volt battery mountings

h. Remove cable clamp bracket for On-Board Vehicle Charger (OBVC) orange
high voltage cables. This will be reconnected later

i. Remove (1) 8mm hex head bolt or appropriate sized E-Torx head bolt. This
will be reconnected later

7) Remove, Modify and Replace coolant hose

a. Place a small cup below OBVC coolant hose to be used to capture a small
amount of leaking coolant

b. Remove 2 pin electrical connector for temperature sensor

c. Remove (2) clamps from OBVC coolant hose as depicted

d. Remove OBVC coolant hose as depicted

e. OPTIONAL – trim 13mm (½”) from each end of the OBVC coolant hose as
depicted

f. Place lower hose assembly (the hose that still contains the temperature
sensor) behind the 12 volt red cable as depicted

g. Reinstall OBVC coolant hose with the 90 degree bend as depicted

h. Attach zip ties as appropriate

i. Reinstall 2 pin electrical connector for temperature sensor as depicted

8) Open left front side door

a. Remove cover from end of dash as depicted

b. Remove the HIGH VOLTAGE DISCONNECT SAFETY DEVICE by pulling


straight out

c. Place the HIGH VOLTAGE DISCONNECT SAFETY DEVICE on the top of


the dash for all technicians to see that might be working on the vehicle

9) INSTALL the JdeMO™ Upper Base Plate assembly in the location formerly
occupied by the 12 volt AGM battery assembly

a. Installation of the assembly is easiest to install if tilted at a 45 degree angle

b. Install (3) M8 bolts x 35mm bolts as depicted. This requires a 12mm or


13mm socket and extension

c. Reinstall bolt 8mm / E-Torx head bolt into OBVC cable bracket

10) Carefully feed the Relay Box orange high voltage cables toward the
lower assembly as depicted

a. You will pull the cable through from the bottom, once work begins under the
car

11) Install black interlock cable alongside the Relay Box orange high
voltage cable

12) Install the Low Voltage External Wiring Harness as depicted

a. Remove the (3) 10mm hex nuts as depicted - requires 10mm socket or
wrench

b. Ensure that plenty of “slack” is in the wiring from the JdeMO™ inlet
mounting plate to the first clamps as depicted, because the motor assembly
moves within the car when operating

c. Install (3) Adel clamps

d. Reinstall (3) 10mm hex head nuts

e. Unplug the 12 or 20 pin connector from the OBVC as depicted – this


requires sliding back the white locking tab and depressing the black tab.
Then, while still depressing the black tab, pull the connector from the OBVC

f. Connect Low Voltage External Wiring Harness connectors as depicted

g. Carefully use zip ties to prevent movement of the plugs without providing
undue stress on the wires connected to them

13) Remove cover from left vehicle side underhood fuse box assembly

a. Route the red fused 12 volt power wire

b. Replace the fuse box cover

14) Plug in the 12 pin connector into the JdeMO control box as depicted

15) Raise the vehicle to begin work underneath

UNDER THE VEHICLE

16) Remove all (4) bottom plastic underbody covers

a. Requires 8mm and 10mm socket, plus a plastic button removal tool
(screwdriver)

WITHOUT AN INSPECTION AND APPROVAL FROM YOUR
SUPERVISOR

STOP VERIFY THAT THE HIGH VOLTAGE DISCONNECT SAFETY


DEVICE IS PROPERLY REMOVED AND VISABLE ON THE TOP OF
THE DASH.

NOTE: FAILURE TO PERFORM THIS FUNCTION COULD RESULT


IN SHOCK, PERSONAL INJURY, DEATH, FIRE, OR PROPERTY
DAMAGE

17) There are (2) black tubes as depicted

a. Use a 10mm hex head socket or wrench (or appropriate E-Torx tool) to
remove (2) M8 bolts on the left vehicle side black tube – only (1) of these
will be reinstalled later

b. Remove the (2) M8 bolt from rear and center of the black tube on the right
vehicle side – neither of these will be reused

c. Loosen the (1) M8 bolt at the front of the black tube on the right vehicle side

18) Remove orange high voltage connector with the attached black
handle from the front of the main traction battery as depicted

a. Lift the black latch and pull the orange high voltage cable assembly away
from the main traction battery

b. IMPORTANT – remove black plastic latch and reinstall on the reverse side
as depicted

19) Remove (2) 10mm hex head castellated lock nuts from the battery
coolant tubing bracket on the top front of the cabin heater assembly

20) Remove black plastic mounts for the main traction battery’s orange
cable assembly from the top front and rear of the cabin heater assembly, as
depicted.

a. There are (2) of these mounts on the front, and (2) on the rear

b. The (2) on the front are physically mounted on the same threaded stud

21) Move the main traction battery’s orange high voltage cable assembly
down and towards the left side of the vehicle, so that it is next to the cabin
heater, instead of over it, as depicted

22) Reinstall (2) 10mm hex head castellated lock nuts from the main
traction battery coolant tubing bracket on the top rear of the cabin heater
assembly

23) Install Junction Box

a. Route the Junction Box orange cable assembly through the cabin heater
hoses

b. Plug in the Junction Box connector into the main traction battery

c. Partially install (1) M8 x 35mm bolt (supplied) in the right rear attachment
hole of the Junction Box

d. Partially install the (1) M8 x 50mm all-thread bolt (supplied) into the right
front attachment hole
e. DO NOT TIGHTEN ANY OF THESE BOLTS YET

24) Install Cable Bracket as depicted

a. Place Cable Bracket above the Junction Box orange cable assembly

b. Reinstall left black tube, using (1) M8 x 35mm bolt (supplied) in the left rear
mounting hole, and reuse the (1) original M8 bolt in the left front of the black
tube

c. Align the Cable Bracket mounting hole with the left front Junction Box
mounting hole, and install (1) M8 x 50mm bolt (supplied)

d. DO NOT TIGHTEN ANY OF THESE BOLTS YET

25) Route cables as depicted

a. Install Adel clamp bracket to Cable Bracket, with (2) 10mm hex head flange
nuts – requires 10mm socket or wrench

b. Install (4) Adel clamps at (2) locations on the Cable Bracket, as depicted,
and attach with (2) 10mm hex head flange nuts – requires 10mm socket or
wrench

26) Install two Adel clamps for the Junction Box orange cables on the
top of the Junction Box

a. Requires 10mm socket with long extension

27) Pull the JdeMO™ plug and cable assembly towards the Junction
Box

a. Remove black plastic attachments from existing Mercedes wiring as


depicted – this will allow easier access to cable

28) Remove orange plastic conduit from the main traction battery orange
cable assembly

a. DO NOT CUT INTO THE HIGH VOLTAGE CABLES !!! IT IS


RECOMMENDED TO USE WIRE CUTTERS OR SIMILAR. OPEN BLADE
KNIFE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. IF YOU CUT INTO THE CABLE, IT
CANNOT BE REPAIRED.

b. DAMAGED CABLES COULD RESULT IN SHOCK, PERSONAL INJURY,


DEATH, FIRE, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE

c. Cut the red (positive) side orange conduit at 380mm (15”), plus and minus
25mm (1”) on either side – the total orange conduit removed will be 50mm
(2”)

d. Wrap red tape around the exposed conduit

e. Cut the black (negative) side orange conduit at 394mm (15.5”), plus and
minus 25mm (1”) on either side – the total orange conduit removed will be
50mm (2”)

f. Wrap black or blue tape around the exposed conduit, as depicted

29) Attach (2) Adel clamps to the main traction battery orange cable
assembly, as depicted

a. Place Adel clamps on M6 stud, located on the Cable Bracket

b. Install 10mm hex head flange nut (supplied) to attach Adel clamps

c. DO NOT TIGHTEN THIS NUT YET

30) Install small black two pin connector into the Junction Box

a. Route the wire as appropriate

b. Place zip ties as appropriate

31) Install the JdeMO™ high voltage cable assembly plug into the left
vehicle side of the Junction Box (your RIGHT side as you view the Junction
Box while facing toward the rear of the vehicle)

a. Close black latch

32) Install main traction battery orange cable assembly plug into the right
vehicle side of the Junction Box (your LEFT side as you view the Junction Box
while facing toward the rear of the vehicle)

a. Close black latch

33) Tighten all bolts in the following order

a. Tighten (1) M8 x 50mm all-thread bolt into the right front Junction Box
attachment
b. Tighten (1) M8 x 50mm bolt into the left front Junction Box / Cable Bracket
attachment

c. Tighten (2) M8 x 35mm bolts into the rear Junction Box attachment

d. Tighten (2) M8 bolts into the front Black Tube attachments

e. Tighten (1) 10mm hex flange nut at the main traction battery orange cable
assembly Adel clamps

f. Tighten (4) 10mm hex flange nut at each of the Cable Bracket Adel clamps

34) Carefully check that all high voltage cables are not rubbing on
anything, nor are they in an unsafe situation

a. DAMAGED CABLES COULD RESULT IN SHOCK, PERSONAL


INJURY, DEATH, FIRE, OR PROPERTY DAMAGE

b. Use 200mm (8”) zip ties as appropriate to ensure that all high
voltage cables are properly secure

c. DO NOT ATTACH ANY ZIP TIES TO THE CABIN HEATER


ASSEMBLY – it moves during operation, and could cause damage
to the high voltage cables

35) Install (4) underbody black plastic panels

36) Lower vehicle on lift

UNDER THE HOOD (again)

37) Once you have been assured that all high voltage connections are
secure and safe, reinstall the HIGH VOLTAGE DISCONNECT SAFETY
DEVICE located inside the vehicle cabin

a. Reinstall the plastic dash panel fuse box cover

38) Install plastic spacers into the 12 volt battery mounting location

39) Reinstall the 12 volt AGM battery

a. Place the positive battery terminal posts to be positioned to the left rear of
the vehicle. This is opposite of the original position

b. Attach J-bolts for securing the 12 volt battery

c. Attach red positive 12 volt battery cable after moving the small ring terminal

d. Make modifications to the black negative 12 volt battery cable

e. Attach black negative 12 volt battery cable – as soon as you attach the
negative cable, the green light near the JdeMO™ inlet will flash once

f. Use a 10mm wrench or socket to tighten both cable connectors on the 12


volt battery terminal posts

TESTING
40) To start the Mercedes B-Class ED (B250e)

a. Use the key fob to lock, and then unlock the vehicle

b. Early 2014-2015 cars – insert key fob

c. Later 2016-2017 cars – place key fob in driver’s side cup holder

d. Press foot on brake and either turn key to START or press START button

e. You should hear the main traction battery contactors close

f. The dash should display READY in green

g. If there is a message “Malfunction Visit Workshop” in yellow letters, press


the OK button on the left side of the steering wheel – you may occasionally
see this message while using JdeMO™ - it is considered a “nuisance”
message

h. If there is a message, “Without starting engine again, consult workshop” in


red letters, the message will automatically clear at some point - you may

occasionally see this message while using JdeMO™, and it is also
considered a “nuisance” message.

1. If you are suitably sure that the black two pin connector is
plugged into the Junction Box, and…

2. If you are sure that all high voltage connections are secure and
properly latched, and…

3. If you are sure that the low voltage harness is connected to the
OBVC, and…

4. If you are sure that the low voltage harness is connected to the
JdeMO™ Relay Box, and…

5. If the vehicle went into READY, then…

6. “Without starting engine again, consult workshop” message in red


letters is likely a nuisance message

41) Drive the vehicle to the nearest suitable CHAdeMO protocol DC fast
charger

a. Follow the instructions on the JdeMO™ decal

b. Leave the vehicle in READY

c. Place the vehicle in PARK

d. SET the PARKING BRAKE

e. OPEN the hood / bonnet with the red lever located under the dash, plus an
additional yellow latch under the hood, and slightly your left of the center of
the vehicle

f. Open the charge port on the vehicle

g. Insert charge station plug fully, until you hear it click

h. Follow any directions given by charge station EXCEPT any instructions that
may instruct you to turn the vehicle off

i. DO NOT TURN OFF THE VEHICLE WHILE CHARGING

j. You should hear the station plug lock to the vehicle, and a red light should
illuminate on the plug (not all plugs may have this red light)

k. If the vehicle will not successfully charge, ensure that the low voltage cable
from the vehicle inlet to the Relay Box is properly plugged in

l. If that doesn’t work, unplug the charge station plug, and turn off the vehicle

m. Turn the vehicle back and confirm READY – this should reset the JdeMO™
software, and the green light should blink once (you may need a helper
person to observe this light while you turn on the vehicle to READY

n. Plug in the charge station plug once again, and reattempt to charge

42) GREEN LIGHT BUTTON FUNCTIONS

a. Press and release the button to reduce the battery State Of Charge (SOC)
percentage by one half – the green light will blink

b. Press and release the button a second time to return the battery State Of
Charge (SOC) percentage to normal – the green light will illuminate steady

c. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds or more to turn off the charge
station – the green light will no longer be illuminated, and the charge station
plug will unlock within 5 seconds

d. If the green light is blinking quickly, that indicates that the battery is either
too hot or too cold, and the charge rate is being automatically reduced

Congratulations! You should be charging. If not, do not hesitate to call or write with
any questions you have.
