PROCEDURES FOR THE ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY OF THE BOGIES

Important: These instructions are provided as guidelines only. It is the responsibility of any party performing assembly or disassembly of
trucks or truck components to develop and enforce their own shop procedures for safe handling of these components. Standard Car
Truck Company assumes no responsibility for any personal injury or product damage resulting from these shop procedures or from lack
thereof.

• Barber S-2-HD-INA Bogie Assembly

o To facilitate assembly of the bogie the bolster may be put on blocks or suitable frame with a maximum height of 120mm. If blocks are used,
place one on each end of the bottom center member to stabilize the bolster from rocking or falling.

o Inspect each bolster pocket, to ensure split wedge pocket insert and side wall wear plate are installed and the wear surfaces are free of
weld spatter, paint or other foreign matter. Do NOT lubricate pocket inserts or side walls of pocket at any time.

o Select two (2) side frames with the same number of pairing buttons.

 Inspect each column to insure the side frame column wear plate and hardware is installed. The column surface should be free of weld
splatter, paint and any other foreign matter. Ensure fasteners do not protrude beyond column wear plate faces. Do NOT lubricate
column wear plates at any time.

 Apply a unit guide brake beam wear liner into each of the two (2) unit guide brackets on each side frame. Position the wear liner
approximately between the stops in the side frame unit guide bracket. Using a hammer or mallet, knock the liners into place until the
wear liner dimples engage the side frame unit guide bracket recesses.

 Apply the pedestal roof liners to each of the two (2) pedestal roofs on each side frame. Position the wear liner approximately between
the lugs on each side of the pedestal roof and using a hammer or mallet, knock the liners into place.

o Place one side frame at each bolster end.

 Lift and move one side frame toward the bolster, passing the bolster end and outboard column guides (gibs) through the lower portion
of the side frame opening.

 Slowly lower the side frame ensuring that the column sides properly engage the bolster outer and inner column guides (gibs) until the
side frame rests on the ground/floor. Do not rest side frame on the bolster end which may result in an unbalanced condition.

o Position and install the end extensions (guide) of two (2) brake beams (without brake shoes) into the unit guide bracket of the first side
frame assembled.
o Repeat the above process for the other side frame making sure that the opposing brake beam end extension engages the unit guide brackets
of the second side frame as the side frame is being installed on the bolster end.

o Reposition the crane/hoist to the bolster and slowly lift the bolster until the ends contact the top of the side frame openings. Ensure that
the bolster pocket top sloped extensions enter the side frame top member openings to provide sufficient vertical space for spring
assembly.

o Referring to the spring group detail (Figure 1.1), install friction wedges and springs in the following sequence.

Figure 1.1

 Place one F-2195-2 inner spring into one F-2195-1 outer spring. Prepare four sets for each side frame.
 Place one (1) F-2195-1 outer and F-2195-2 inner combination onto each inboard corner location of the side frame spring seat.
 Place one F-2197-2 inner side spring into one F-2197-1 outer side spring. Prepare two sets for each side frame
 Insert one (1) left and one (1) right split wedge into one bolster pocket and hold in place with a support plate (Figure 1.2).
Figure 1.2 Figure 1.3

 Place the two side springs F-2197-2 and F-2197-1 under the friction wedges. Remove support plate (Figure 1.3).
 Repeat for opposite pocket, apply friction wedge halves and side springs.
 Place one (1) F-2195-1 outer and F-2195-2 inner combination onto each outboard corner location of the side frame spring seat.

o Repeat the previous sequence for the opposite side frame.

o Slowly lower the bolster until its full weight is resting on the friction wedge and load springs.
o Install two (2) side bearing cages onto the bolster machined pads. Secure with 7/8”-9 UNC grade 5 minimum bolts, washer and self-locking nuts.
Bolts to be torqued to 365-435 ft-lbs (495-590 N-m) if dry or lubricated to 275-325 ft-lbs (375-440 N-m). Installation of elements (polymer block)
and side bearing caps are not required until bogie has been installed under a wagon and the side bearing wear plate height has been
verified. Refer to Standard Car Truck installation and maintenance procedure no. SK-3103.

o Place two (2) wheel sets on level 1067mm gauge track. Lift and position the entire bogie assembly (using side frame as the lifting points) to
a height sufficient to allow the wheel sets to be rolled in from each end.

o Position and restrain one bearing adapter onto the side frame pedestal roof surface.

 A strap should be positioned under the adapter lift lugs and fastened snugly over the top of the side frame pedestal area.
 Strap a bearing adapter onto each of the four side frame pedestal locations.

o Slowly lower the complete three piece bogie onto the two wheel set assembles. Assure the bearing adapters correctly engage each roller bearing.

o Remove the straps.

o Install frame keys (4 total) in place on each inner pedestal leg on both side frames. Secure with 3/4”-10 or M20-2.5 grade 5 minimum bolts,
washer and self-locking nuts. Nuts to be lubricated and torqued to 225-275 ft-lbs (300-375N-m)

o Verify that all springs are seated and located properly within the side frame and bolster spring retainers.

o Ensure the bolster center bowl is free of debris and/or contaminants. Place bolster horizontal wear liner within center bowl and ensure the liner
is seating properly on the horizontal machined surface in center bowl.

o Assemble the remaining brake components (i.e. levers, connecting rod, and fulcrum bracket lever strap) with the appropriate brake pins
and cotters.

o Install brake shoes and brake shoe keys.

o Install the center pin and the top retainer key (when used) into the wagon body. Verify that the pin is protruding from the center plate surface.
When AAR type center pin is used apply center pin into bolster bowl center hole.

o Apply bogie under wagon on straight level track and verify wagon side bearing wear plates are at the correct height relationship to the bolster
machined side bearing pads at each of the four locations. Adjust if necessary by adding or subtracting shims from above wagon body wear
plate.

o After verifying side bearing measurements, raise wagon for installation of side bearing element and cap. It is recommended that for new cars
only, a thin layer of no. 2 lithium grease or equivalent be applied to the top cap surface. This will reduce the frictional resistance during break in
period
of new caps.
o Apply center plate lube disc on top of the horizontal wear liners in center bowl. (Do not apply until side bearing wear plate has been
verified.)

o Lower wagon onto the completed bogie assemblies making sure the center pin enters the bolster center pin hole. Insert the
bottom retaining key (when used) through the center pin opening. Insert cotter through the hole in the bottom retaining key (when
used) to prevent accidental dislodgement of the bottom retaining key during operation.

• Barber S-2-HD-INA Bogie Disassembly

o Remove bottom retaining key from locking center pin (when used).

o Disconnect the wagon brake (pull) rod from the bogie live lever.

 Raise the wagon body off the bogie assembly.

 Roll the bogie out from underneath the wagon body.
 In order to disassemble the Barber S-2-HD-INA bogie, start with removing the side frame keys and hardware and work in
reverse, with the following cautions.

• Roller bearing adapters may fall free when bogie is lifted off the wheel sets, if straps are not used.

• In a Barber truck, the friction wedges are free to fall when the side springs are removed.
