SEMESTER: Omega – 2019/2020
COURSE LECTURER: Prof. Soriyan O. O. (Coordinator), Dr. Ehi-Eromosele C.O

TIME: 8 - 10 am (Wednesdays)
LOCATION: 300/400L Chemistry Laboratory

A. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF COURSE:

Thermodynamics and electrical surface phenomena. Adsorption at the gas-solid, liquid-gas, and
solid- liquid interfaces. The Gibbs adsorption, Kelvin equation, Langmuir isotherm. Wetting and
flotation. The colloidal state. Electrode processes. Electrochemical cells. Emf measurement and its
applications. Thermodynamics and kinetics of electrode processes.

B. COURSE OBJECTIVES/GOALS:
The purpose of this course is to:
 To help students learn more about electrochemistry by helping them increase their
understanding of electron transfer and its role in chemical changes.
 This lesson allows students to understand how energy transfers in the chemical
change of rust and corrosion and to understand the factors that influence this
process.
 Investigate the underlying theories, principles and methods of colloid and surface
chemistry
 provide students with an understanding of the physical chemistry of surfaces and
colloidal processes
