GRADO 401

PRESENT CONTINUOS
The present continuous is used to talk about something that is being done
right now. It is to talk about actions that have begun to be done but have
not yet finished. Present continuous, also called present progressive or
-ing form.
To conjugate a verb in the present continuous, we use the auxiliary verb
be and the main verb in gerund, that is, adding the ending -ing to the
infinitive.
Now we see the three ways of expressing the present continuous, of the
negative form, the affirmative form and the interrogative form.
Affirmative:
Subject + Is/are/am + not + verb
 I am learning English // (Estoy aprendiendo inglés)
 Julia is singing. // (Julia está cantando)
Negative:
To form the negative we have to add "not": Subject + Is/are/am + not +
verb
 Juan is not swimming in the lake // (Jane no está nadando en el
lago).
 They are not playing in the park // (Ellos no están jugando en el
parque).
Interrogative:
To begin with, the first word we will use is some form of the verb to be,
then comes the subject and finally the main verb:
To be + subject + verb.
 Is my best friend calling? // (¿Está llamando mi mejor amiga?).
 Are the boys playing football? // (¿Están jugando fútbol los niños?)
