LOW SIDE EFFECTS AND

AN ACCEPTABLE QUALITY
OF LIFE
The Care Oncology Clinic provides existing treatments currently approved
to treat other metabolic conditions which, when given together with your
existing cancer treatment, can reduce the growth rate of cancer cells.

The Care Oncology Clinic uses a mixture of established tolerable prescription medicines to treat
patients with cancer. These medicines target cholesterol, glucose and glycolysis processes, which
impact upon the metabolism of the cancer cells and the immune cells surrounding the cancer cells.

In recent years, research has been undertaken to investigate the value of existing prescription
medicines, including metformin (diabetes), statins (cholesterol) and antibiotics (infections) in
treating cancer. Research has demonstrated the positive effects these individual drugs have on
slowing down the rate of growth of cancer cells and tumours. The medicines prescribed have already
been used by large numbers of people for long periods of time. This means that their side effects are
well understood and easily managed.

The Care Oncology Clinic uses a combination of these established, tolerable medicines to treat
patients with cancer, alongside their current standard of care. The Care Oncology Clinic’s treatment is
overseen by leading oncologists who will be with you every step of the way throughout your treatment.

the Care Oncology Clinic’s leading consultants to work alongside your current doctor in
coordinating the best level of care.
2. We will make your first visit to the Care Oncology Clinic as comfortable as possible,
with dedicated and experienced staff on hand to answer all your questions.

Your first visit to the Clinic will include;

 Completion of a consent form

 A meeting with a Consultant
 An evaluation of your current condition
 Diagnostics (if required)
 A prescription for your cancer treatment

3. Following your appointment with the Consultant, a nurse will talk you through your
individual cancer treatment and answer any questions you may have.
4. You will still need to have routine scans and checkups to see how the treatments are
affecting your cancer. These may be carried out by your doctor at your local hospital, or
