Preaching Series: Block Party––Everyone Is Invited!

Jesus showed us the greatest example of love when he laid down his life for his friends. With his words
and actions, he showed friendship to everyone he met. We can reflect Jesus’ love best when we treat
one another with friendship.
We will learn about how to be the kind of friends and neighbors that God calls us to be through three
Rev. pairs of friends in the Bible:
Mary Suomala Folkerds ª The prophets Elijah and Elisha teach us about mentorship and coaching,
Lead Pastor ª Jesus and Peter teach us about forgiveness in friendship, and
ª David and Jonathan teach us about love and devotion in friendship.
In the final week of the sermon series, we
will have our own Block Party at Church!
On Wednesday, September 9, from 5:00–
7:00 pm, we will have an outdoor event
with food trucks, music, Curbside Holy
Communion, and service projects to take
with you!
Rev. Taylor Wilson Our staff will be there to answer questions

information. You can drive–up or walk–up to Curbside Holy Communion where one of the pastors will
pray for you and share God’s grace with you.
It’s a Block Party, and everyone is invited!
Faithfully,

Rev. Mary Suomala Folkerds, Lead Pastor

Rev. Dan Forsberg
Pastor of Faith Challenge
Congregational Care “I will lead the blind by a road they do not know, by paths they have not known I will guide them. I will
turn the darkness before them into light, the rough places into level ground. These are the things I will
do, and I will not forsake them.” (Isaiah 42:16)
h Through the prophet Isaiah, God promises “to guide us on our roads unknown.” Can you name
some roads in your life and in our world? How is God guiding us in these days? Where do you
hear God speaking to you, to guide you as One who leads the blind?
h Four times God says “I will…” What does God say he will do for us in the passage? How do these
promises shape your faith and hope?
h God promises to turn our darkness into light. In Luke 1:78–79, Zechariah prophesies, “the dawn
from on high will break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness.” What do you think
Deacon Julie Wilson
he is referring to? How is this promise fulfilled? Read Luke 4:16–21. What does Jesus claim for
Director of Himself? What does it mean for the world?
Children & Family h Jesus has often been referred to as “Our North Star.” What do you know about the North Star?

What does it mean to call Jesus our North Star? Have you ever had anyone in your life, who by
their guidance, became your North Star? (Luke 1:79)

gsWELCOME DESK | Calling for volunteers!
As Karen Skarpness starts her new role as Data Systems and Finance Manager, and transitions away from being the main
voice you hear when you call Good Shepherd, we will be relying on a team of front desk volunteers from 10:00 am–2:00 pm
each day. If you would like to volunteer, email Linda@ktgs.org.
gsGIFT CARD DONATIONS | Assisting our membership.
Some of our Good Shepherd families are in isolation/quarantine due to coronavirus exposure. We want to continue helping
families by delivering gift cards for local restaurants who offer pick-up and/or delivery. If you can help, send gift cards to the
church: ATTN: Linda Bartholome, 4000 28th St S, Moorhead, MN 56560. Denominations of $25 are most needed, in order to
distribute to the most families.

information in the coming weeks. You may also donate at
local facilities by visiting BloodHero.com (Vitalant, Fargo)
