A Reflection Paper on Panagtapok Online: Alumni Meeting Beyond Boundaries

During the Panagtapok Online: Alumni Meeting Beyond Boundaries, the

phrase “bloom where you are planted” spoke to me the most. Dean Gevera quoted
this phrase from an article which means to make the most out of the circumstances
you’re in. She further said that being in the field of Accountancy is not by chance, but
for a purpose. When I enrolled in UM, I choose Accountancy without any particular
reason. This always bothers me because I’m unsure if this field is really for me. I am
third year now, still my purpose why I am here eludes me. I was comforted when
Dean said that our mission is to find that purpose by listening to the prompt of the
Holy Spirit. I always have faith in God and I always believed in His promise that was
written in Jeremiah 29:11. I know that He has plans for me, plans that will make me
prosper.
While listening further on, I was amazed how humble the resource speakers
were despite their achievements. I realized that their humble beginnings and life
experiences made them that. One thing that I learned from them is to persevere.
They also faced hardships during their stay in the university. Despite all that, they did
not give up. One resource speaker said that it is okay to cry, but it doesn’t stop there.
Listening to their struggles before, I became grateful to God because I have it easier.
I am a full-time student because my family provided me for everything. They did not
pressure me to do anything. Sometimes, I am ashamed of myself for being
complacent in my studies.
All in all, I am very thankful for the timely online meeting the CAE Department
conducted. I was comforted and encouraged to continue in this endeavor. I am
inspired knowing that despite the pandemic accountants remain in demand all over
the world. I am happy to know that UM alumni are competitive and well-rounded
individuals. From now on, I will aspire to be like them.
