Musing Instead of Amusement
With the allure of the stunning images
of the television and the incredible
graphics of video games, it is hard for
some people to “curl up” with a good
Christian book anymore. But good

Christian books and magazines are
easily accessible through the internet,
local bookstores, and public libraries.
There are many benefits to good
Christian reading material.

God teaches us we must love Him
with all our minds as well as our
hearts and souls (Matthew 22:37).
The Scriptures also teach us that we
must be transformed by the renewing
of our minds (Romans 12:2). Of
course, the Bible is the most
important book to read, it is the Word
of God (II Timothy 3:16).
Regardless of how profitable a
Christian book may be, it should
never substitute the reading and
study of the Word of God. We must
be diligent in studying His Word.
One great way we can grow as
Christians is to read good books that

Bible better. Paul wrote to Timothy and
requested that he bring books with him
when he visited.
There are Baptist churches that
produce good Christian reading like
magazines and newsletters that allow
us to benefit from the accumulated
knowledge of others. It’s easy to
become disheartened with the struggle
of living the Christian life.
Subscriptions to Christian periodicals
can encourage us, as we see the way
Christian brothers and sisters have
persevered in much harsher
circumstances than ours. Christian
books and biographies will help us to
be encouraged by the godly examples
of others. These Christian resources
can encourage us, as we see how God
uses ordinary people like us, to
achieve amazing things for Him and
through the local church.

Your relationship to Jesus Christ is central to the
answer to that question.
We are, by nature, sinners who stand guilty and condemned
before our Creator and Judge. In our thoughts and actions,
we have disobeyed His perfect standards. We are sinners
(Romans 3:10, 23).
We are helpless to save ourselves. Forgiveness is a gift to
be received, not a reward that can be earned. We need a
Saviour (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Because of His love for us, God provided salvation through
His Son, Jesus. He became a member of the human family,
lived without sin, and died on the cross to pay for our sins.
Jesus is the Saviour (Romans 5:8; John 3:16).
Salvation is an individual matter and requires a personal
response on the part of anyone that wants to be saved. All
who acknowledge their sin and place their trust in Christ are
adopted as God’s children (Romans 10:9, 13).
