Form Of Organisation
This is a company form of organization. As seen in any organization, even
this organization has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Following are the advantages of this organization:

1. Division of Labour:
There is a clear cut segregation of the marketing and
distribution department. The work is distributed between all the
departments in such a way that the work is carried out very easily
without any problems.
2. Proper Co-ordination:
There is proper co-ordination between all the departments and
the decisions taken by them. As a result there is no duplication of
work and all the functions are carried out smoothly.
3. Raw Materials:
Nearly 75% of the material used is brought from outside as raw
materials due to which the cost of production within the organization
is comparitively less.
4. Less Wastage:
The wastage of other organizations are used as raw materials
in this organization and there is no wastage during the production
process.

Following are the disadvantages of this organization:

1. Decisions by Majority:
As the decisions in the company meetings are taken by
majority, the minority shareholders have no voive.
2. Secrets cannot be Maintained:
A company has to disclose all its business affairs to the public.
It has to publish its Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss Account and
many other details. Keeping all this affairs a secret is generally very
essential in a competitive market.

10
3. Misuse of Information:
The directors possess every bit of information pertaining to the
management and business of the company. As a result they can
misuse information given to them for their personal gain.
4. Taxes:
The burden of taxes on the company organization is very huge.
A majority of the companies in India pay to the government income
tax amounting to as much as 35 to 38 percent of their net profits.

The cement manufacturing facility in Sirohi has an annual production

capacity of 3.5 million tonnes. The quality of limestone that is used as a raw
material in this manufacturing process is of such a superior quality that
even without adding clay or any other such material, the quality of the
cement produced can be compared with the cement produced in the best
cement industries across the world.Only the cement produced in the J.K.
Lakshmi Cement comes with the unique Mazbooti guarantee consisting of
strength, fineness, setting time, weight and colour.

The Plaster of Paris decorations related to cornices, ceiling roses,

achieved in terms of factors likequality and wastage avoidance.

17
Production Process
The production of cement undergoes a process which is as follows:

1. Raw Materials:
The basic raw material used in the manufacturing of J.K. Lakshmi
Cement, the good quality cement grade limestone, is abundantly available
in the mines withis the J.K. Lakshmi factory premises that is spread over an
area of 400 hectares.

2. Blasting:
Limestone, obtained from mines, undergoes a process of heavy
blasting which is conducted under strict supervision and safety
precaution. The limestone obtained from J.K Lakshmi mines, being of a
superior quality, removes the need to add clay or any other additional raw
material that is normally added during th eprocess of cement
manufacturing.

3. Crushing:
The limestone which is in the form of huge stones is loaded in
dumpers and transported to the crushers which is a machine used to crush
the huge stone into small and manageable chunks that are 20 mm in size.

4. Quality Check:
The limestone obtained from the crusher undergoes a rigorous quality
check which is done using German Metric Machine and cross belt analyzer.

5. Reject-belt Conveyor:
The engines at J.K. Lakshmi ensure that unsuitable limestone is
dumped using a reject-belt conveyor.

6. Circular Pre-blending:
The engineers at J.K Lakshmi Cement assume that only the best
quality of limestone is sent to the circular pre-blending stock pile.

18
7. Grinding:
Using an accurate weighing mechanism, tha material is fed into the
Loesche mill roller mill, which is a vertical mill with huge rollers used for
grinding the material.

8. Blending Silo:
Powder form of raw materials of different grades is mixed
homogeneously in the blending silo with the help of air slides.

9. Calcination:
This stage is said to be the most critical stage in the J.K. Lakshmi
Cement manufacturing process. The raw material is fed into a kiln, which is
a huge rotating furnace. Using coal as a fuel, the kiln heats the raw
materials to a temperature of 1400 degrees celcius, which is almost one
fourth of the mean surface temperature of the sun.

10. Cooling:
Subsequent to the intense heating, the raw material is now sent to
the CFG Cooler to bring down the temperature of the material to 200
degrees celcius. The sudden cooling of the material results in the formation
of a grey coloured modules known as clinker.

11. Clinker Storage:

Clinker, a prestructural reinforced cement concrete, is sent to a
clinker silo to avoid any unwanted effects of the weather.

12. Clinker Milling:

Clinker and Gypsum are fed to the cement mill in definite proportion
with the help of a weigh feeder.

13. Packing and Transporter:

Cement is packed into HDPE/PP bags with the helpvof an automatic
electronic packer that is supplied by ventomatic, Italy. Before the cement
leave for the different J.K. Lakshmi sites across the country, they pass
through an electronic weigh bridge for the final weighing of cement.

19
Plant and Technology

The Portland cement is prepared in J.K. Lakshmi Cement. For

making one ton of ordinary Portland cement the following raw
materials are used in the following proportions:
1350 Kg Limestone
300 Litres Water
94 Kg Coal
65 Kg Gypsum

The major cost components occuring during the production of

portland cement is as follows:
Taxes – 8%
Raw Materials – 13%
Overheads – 5%
Employment Expenses – 3%
Power – 18%
Coal (Clinker) – 13%
Excise – 17%
Packing – 4%
Freight – 19%

20
The clinker used is obtained from Sirohi in Rajasthan which is
at a distance of 40 Kms from Abu Road and at a distance of 250 Kms
from Ahmedabad.
The main component part of cement is Clinker, Gypsum and Fly
Ash. Fly Ash is a wastage received from different companies which
generate electricity. Due to this Fly Ash, the strength of the Ordinary
Portland Cementhas increased. There is no wastage at all.
The electricity is supplied by GEB i.e. The Gujarat Electricity
Board. The manufacturing of cement is done only in that period of
time when the charges of electricity usage is low. There is no
production taking place during the peak hours because during peak
hours the charges of electricity usage is comparatively higher.
Manufacturing of the cement is done usually between 7am to 11am
and 6 pm to 10 pm. The electricity bill is of nearly 1.13 crores.
The clinker which is obtained from the wastage of Torrent and
GEB is brought in by trucks. These trucks are then unloaded with the
help of a grinding unit which has a capacity of 100 tons. This unit is
completely automatic. With the help of this unit, in an hour nearly four
trucks can be unloaded. There are in all three shifts. In all the three
shifts there are in all three operators to operate the system of
unloading the trucks. Maximum 2000 tons of clinker can be unloaded
every day and on a average 1500 tons of clinker is unloaded.
There is a hopper into which 175 metric ton of clinker is mixed
with an additive and Gypsum of 90 metric ton each. There is a
centralized control room for undertaking all such activities during the
production of Portland Phozzolona Cement.
The selling on the cement is done in two ways. The first is in a
plastic bag for sales and related economic reasons and the second is
to nano and even local builders. There are two different colours of
bags used. The white bag is used for institutional buyers and the
green bag is used for retail sale. The filling up of the bags is done on
the basis of usage. The packing is done with the help of a Roto
Packer. Every day on an average 30000 bags are sold and per month
nearly 9 lakh bags are sold.

21
Plant Layout
Plant Layout is very essential and it has to be brought into
consideration from the very beginning so as to avoid problems in future.
The best layout is that, which is both systematic and cheap. It is an
arrangement of machines and plants in such a way that it leads to cost
reduction with maximum output and best quality product. It is an agreement
insisting that each operation is performed with the least inconvenience.

The plant should be laid out in a scientific and systematic manner.

The layout should be flexible so that changes can be easily made without
any hindrance or inconvenience.

Men, machinery, materials and other related activities should be

integrated in such a way that they can guarantee the best production
results.

The working place should be safe. The environment should be dust

and noise free. Maximum number of employees should get maximum
safety and satisfaction.

In a good plant layout, there should be maximum utilization of

available space in a very economical manner.

Future Plans And Projects

J.K. Lakshmi Cement is planning to set up five ready – mix concrete

plants with an investment of around Rs. 1000 crore by the end of the
current financial year.

The 4 - 5 RMC plants that will be set up in four locations will add
value to the company. It will have a good future as there is a continuous
increase in the demand of cement. This expansion would be funded through
internal accruals.

Most of the existing facilities being utilised to their optimum capacity,

in order to meet extra demand, a target has been set up to construct 6-7
RMC plants a year. Setting up one RMC plant would cost Rs 140-200
crore.

Construction work on the two plants is on and the company would

launch the other projects very soon. During the last financial year, JK
Lakshmi set up five RMC plants each with a capacity of 60 cubic million
tonnes per year in Ahmedabad, Baroda, Jaipur, Mohali and Surat, taking
the total number of RMC units to 10.

The company is expecting to minimise its operating cost after its 36

megawatt captive power plant at Sirohi (Rajasthan) gets commissioned
later this year.

With rising input costs pressure, several cost-cutting measures will be

undertaken to ensure that the fund requirements for value addition can be
met through internal accruals. The rising cost of power plants has also
made it necessary to set up captive power plants for each of cement units.

J.K. Lakshmi Cement has developed a cement plant at Sirohi with a

production capacity of 5 million tonnes.

The company said currently it is able to reduce power consumption to

79 kwh per tonne of cement from 83 kwh per tonne in the previous year,
besides reducing coal consumption to 80 kg per tonne from 84 kg per
tonne.

45
The company is installing a split location grinding unit at Kalol in
Gujarat to augment its capacity to 4.75 million tonnes from 3.65 million
tonnes.

The company will invest Rs 1,200 crore to set up a greenfield project

in Chhattisgarh with an annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes, which is
scheduled to be in commission by 2011.With the completion of the plant at
Durg in Chhattisgarh, the production capacity will go up to 7.5 million
tonnes per annum.

46
Amount Spent On Research

Rs. 125 crore is being spent on setting up a Waste Heat Recovery

Power project. During the year J.K. Lakshmi Cement has spent Rs. 0.28
crore on researches and development which is equivalent to 0.02 % of the
