Course Code RTEC 100 Course Description A preliminary approach to Radiologic Technology education and practice, this will provide an understanding on the scope, outputs, and practices of radiological sciences in general and Radiologic Technology in particular. This course deals with the historical advancement of Radiologic Technology from the discovery of x-rays up to the recent trends in the science of imaging. It also deals on the interaction between science and technology, and their impact to society and environment. Develop genuine interest in students to read their books/handouts and have patience in reviewing all their past lessons. B. A. Outline the history of x-ray discovery and its subsequent application in
medicine as well as distinguish Radiology and Radiologic Technology. B. Outline the historical perspective of Radiology and Radiologic Technology from its first practitioner to the establishment of schools and association, creation of the board as well as linkages with agencies and parallel groups. C. Discuss the responsibilities and relationships of all personnel in the radiology department. D. Outline the basic principles of x-ray imaging, as well as name equipment and accessories employed. Relate the mechanisms of radiation protection. E. Differentiate the various special imaging modalities from the point of view of its physical principles and applications. F. Discuss the role and value of a mission statement to the operation of an institution. G. Identify various settings involved in the delivery of health care. H. Identify other health science professions that participate in the patient’s total health care. I. Describe relationships and interdependencies of departments within a health care institution. J. Differentiate between quality improvement/management, quality assurance, and quality control. K. Define credentialing, certification, registration, licensure, and regulations. L.
