In keeping mind, the flood, I am submitting the accompany background report regarding flood is
started on from 31st July and it is still ongoing on. The purpose of this report is to provide their
basic needs in their livelihood.
In the state of West Bengal, heavy rains since 31st July have caused floods in several districts,
and still going on recently in Alal village is in Gazole Tehsil of Maldah district in West Bengal,
India. As per 2009 states, Alal village is also a gram panchayat. The total geographical area of
village is 181.41 hectares. Alal has a total population of 2,050 peoples (male 1,047 and female
1,003). There are about 434 houses in Alal village.
Details of Affected
Two days of continuous heavy rainfall in Malda district especially led to the collapse of a portion
of the Alal river. The river was flowing 35 cm above the danger level. More than 15 villages are
affected by the Alal river and broken the houses. Rescue teams rushed to the area and moved the
people to safer places.
The number of Alal villages affected 21, Population affected 1105.No. of human lives lost 7, No.
of livestock lost 37, Crop area affected (in ha) 100, Estimate value of damaged crop (Rs in lakh)
6, Total loss no. of houses Damaged 399.
Affected 1105 peoples have been accommodated in 12 relief camps or shelters set up by the
government. The Inter-Agency Group in West Bengal has shared four Situation Reports and
conducted a rapid assessment of the situation in Malda district of Gazole block around Alal
village.
