Staff Placement Call for Applications

Policy & Advocacy Assistant - 6 months

Position: Policy & Advocacy Assistant (2 positions)


Duration: 6 months (negotiable)
Location: Remote / Online with the possibility of traveling to Geneva, Switzerland
when/if travel conditions allow and when it is considered safe to travel in the
context of COVID-19. The total duration of the stay in Switzerland cannot exceed 3
months.

Do you want to have a platform from which to support National and Local YMCAs
in their work, including your own?

If so, we kindly invite you to apply for a Staff Placement position on


Policy&Advocacy at the World YMCA!

Main Responsibilities:

● Supporting the World YMCA overall Policy & Advocacy initiatives;


● Offering assistance to the launch, implementation and monitoring of the
WAY’s Communities of Impact;
● Supporting the activities related to the WAY’s UN Advocacy Group and the
launch of the future group;
● Offering assistance in relation to the World YMCA’s activities connected to
the Big 6 Alliance of Youth Organizations;
● Online research of various relevant opportunities for young people from the
YMCA to engage with at global level;

Requirements:

● Staff position at any level in a local, national or regional YMCA. Recently


furloughed (temporarily laid off) staff in the context of the COVID-19
pandemic are also eligible. CEO-level positions are not eligible.
● Endorsement from the respective National General Secretary;
● Availability for minimum 2h daily for the duration of the staff placement
during the remote phase. This is expected to increase to 6h daily in case of
temporary relocation to Geneva for the duration of the stay in Switzerland.

● Very good skills in written and spoken English;
● Good organisational skills and self-organisation / time and task management
skills;
● Strong passion for young people’s issues and global issues and a strong
interest in public policy and/or advocacy;
● Good quality Internet connection;

Supplementary Requirements in case of travel to Switzerland:

● Technical eligibility/possibility of obtaining a visa for Switzerland, if


needed;
● Mandatory health insurance for the full 3-month stay in Switzerland;
● Negative COVID-19 test upon entrance to Switzerland (no later than 3 days
before day of travel);

Benefits:

● A stipend of $500 / month to support costs for the duration of the stay in
Switzerland, if this will be possible. For the duration of the placement
outside Switzerland this will be negotiated with the local/national/regional
YMCA of the candidate;
● Accommodation for 3 months in Geneva, Switzerland if traveling is possible.
This will be done in one of the World YMCA’s apartments, which might also
be shared with other people from the or connected to the YMCA. The staff
placement will have her/his/their own bedroom;
● Monthly transportation pass for the Geneva area offered for free for the
duration of the stay in Switzerland;
● Opportunity to connect with global YMCA stakeholders, internally and
externally;
● Opportunity to shape some of the activities of the World YMCA for the
duration of the placement in co-creation and collaborative processes;
