Windows, general 843 Service Information 2014/3/18
Profile:
BHL, BL71 PLUS [GB]

Windows, general
Windows
There are 12 window panes in the cab; the windscreen comprises one large pane connected to two smaller panes on either
side below the windscreen.
Windows, replacing
Use clean tools and protective gloves when replacing windows since residue and grease can affect the adhesive capacity.
The adhesive curing process, which is contingent on temperature and humidity, is indicated in this section with a curing time
based on a temperature of approximately 23° C (73° F) and normal humidity. A longer curing time is required during other
weather conditions with freezing temperatures and low humidity.
NOTE!
The panes should not come in contact with metal or welded joints. Use rubber spacers and follow the instructions and steps
for replacing window panes.

SikaAktivator
SikaAktivator is a specially-developed cleaning agent and adhesive fluid used for contact surface pre-treatment before
polyurethane adhesive application. Drying time: 10 minutes (min.), 2 hours (max.).
SikaPrimer-206 G+P
SikaPrimer-206 G+P is a black, moisture-inhibiting, low viscosity primer specially developed for use on contact surfaces
before polyurethane adhesive application. SikaPrimer-206 G+P is used on window panes without a composite moulding (the
black impregnation around the window pane edges) in order to protect the adhesive from UV radiation or when the contact
surface is newly surface coated. In both cases, the surface must be cleaned with SikaAktivator before priming. Drying time
for SikaPrimer-206 G+P is 10 minutes.
NOTE!
Never use SikaPrimer-206 G+P on residue from old adhesive.

SikaTack-Drive
SikaTack-Drive is a fast-drying, cold-application polyurethane adhesive. SikaTack-Drive cures using the humidity in the air.
Reduced humidity, which occurs at lower temperatures, causes drying time to become longer. Under these conditions, let
the machine idle with the cab heating fan switched on. In order to raise the level of moisture in the air, a bucket of water can
be placed in the cab. In varying weather conditions, apply a bead of adhesive to a bit of cardboard to check curing time.
Sikaflex 521
Sikaflex 521 is a one-part adhesive and sealing compound which cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture to form a
permanent elastomer. To ensure the best treatment properties, the cartridges should maintain room temperature. Apply
Sikaflex in a V-shaped bead and remove masking tape within 15 minutes.

Installation kit 11704359

NOTE!
Allow two hours for the sealing compound to cure, during which time the machine must not be driven. See also
843 Windows, general

NOTE!
To change the rear window pane, the complete frame must be removed from the cab.

1. Park the machine in the service position.

WARNING
Risk of cuts! Wear safety glasses and use protective gloves.

2. Cut away old sealing compound remnants from the joints. Make a hole in the compound in order to thread in a
metal wire.

Figure 1

3. Thread in a metal wire which has been wound securely around an appropriate handle. Using the wire, cut around
the entire window until the pane loosens.
Figure 2

4. Apply masking tape to a cracked pane to prevent loose glass fragments.

Figure 3

5. Lift out the window pane.

6. Use a sharp knife to level off the old adhesive compound, leaving a surface 1-2 mm (0.039-0.079 in) thick.

Figure 4

NOTE!
Avoid touching the trimmed surface.

7. If necessary, level off the welded joint on the metal flange at the lower edge of the window frame with an angle
grinder.
Figure 5

8. Wipe clean with a lint-free rag.

NOTE!
Do not use a cleaning agent.

9. Remove the sealing compound and clean the surfaces of the smaller panes. Use SikaAktivator on a lint-free rag,
wiping in one direction to avoid smearing any residue back and forth.
NOTE!
If the paintwork on the window pane composite moulding or metal flange has been damaged, apply SikaPrimer
206 G+P after SikaAktivator application.

Figure 6

10. Apply SikaAktivator along the window frame and the edges of the pane using a lint-free rag. Allow 10 minutes for
drying.

Figure 7
NOTE!
It is very important to apply SikaAktivator to the composite moulding (the black impregnation around the window
pane edges).

NOTE!
Avoid touching the trimmed surface.

11. Clean the metal and the trimmed adhesion joint surface with SikaAktivator.

Figure 8

12. Apply SikaTack-Drive adhesive compound along the pane edges. In order to maintain the correct compound
height, apply as shown using the proper glue gun angle.

Figure 9
Figure 10

13. Fit the window pane and stabilise it for at least 5 minutes. Make sure that there is a 5 mm (0.2 in) gap between the
glass edges and the window frame.

Figure 11
Gap X= 5 +1 mm (0.2 +0.04 in)
The substrate must be pre-treated with SikaAktivator. In other words, the substrate must be clean, dry and free
from oil and grease. To ensure the best treatment properties, the adhesive compound (SikaFlex 521) cartridges
should maintain room temperature.

Affixing the small window panes with SikaFlex 521

14. Apply masking tape 3-4 mm (0.12-0.16 in) from the edges of the window pane, both on the inside and outside.
Apply adhesive compound abundantly and uniformly to the outside and continue with application on the inside.
Figure 12

15. Spread the compound using an appropriate tool. Let dry for two hours. Remove the masking tape within 15
minutes.

Climate control system, description

The machine is equipped with a climate control system where the cab fan is able to maintain a constant excess pressure in
order to keep out pollutants. In addition all air is filtered even the so called recirculated air. As standard the cab is provided
with a heater unit, but air conditioning (AC) is available as optional equipment.
All controls for the climate control system are positioned by the right side panel.
The cab fan has three speeds and is controlled with a switch (1).
The temperature is controlled with a continuously variable switch (3). The air conditioning fan speed is controlled with switch
(2) when the air conditioning switch (4) is activated.

Figure 1

1. Switch, fan speed

2. Switch, air conditioning fan speed

4. Switch for air conditioning
5. Air nozzles

The air, drawn into the cab, first passes the air intake. From there the air passes through a replaceable prefilter, which is
accessible via a cover on the right side of the cab, and then through the main filter which is located behind the prefilter.
Figure 2
Prefilter

After the air has passed the cab filter it is sucked into the fan and then blown further through heater unit after which it is
distributed inside the cab.
AC–unit
The AC–unit is separated from the heater unit and is located in the cab roof. The AC–fan has three speeds and is controlled
with SW21 and SW23.

Air conditioning, 874 Service Information 2014/3/18
description
Profile:
BHL, BL71 PLUS [GB]

Air conditioning, description

The evaporator is located in the cab roof. The evaporator becomes cold when the air conditioning is switched on and air
passing over the evaporator fins is cooled.
The air conditioning system is filled with refrigerant (R134a) which is pumped through the system by the compressor (D).
The compressor, which is driven by the diesel engine via a belt, has an electromagnetic clutch for engaging and disengaging
the compressor.
The compressor (D) pumps refrigerant to the condenser (E) and increases pressure so that the refrigerant is condensed
(becomes liquid). Refrigerant compression generates heat, which is led from the condenser with diesel engine's cooling fan.
The receiver dryer (F) absorbs any moisture in the refrigerant and serves as a refrigerant storage site. The receiver dryer is
located just in front of the condenser. The pressure monitor (G) cuts off at excessively high or low pressure.
The amount of refrigerant that flows through the evaporator (B) is controlled by the expansion valve (A), which senses the
temperature at the evaporator outlet with the capillary tube (I). The restriction in the expansion valve lowers the pressure so
that the refrigerant converts from liquid to gas. The evaporator causes a significant drop in the refrigerant's temperature.
When the cold refrigerant passes through the evaporator, heat is taken from the air in the cab through the evaporator's fins.
This results in cold air being blown from the air nozzles in the cab roof.
Evaporator temperature is adjusted by a thermostat (C) which senses evaporator temperature via the capillary tube (J) and
prevents ice from forming on the evaporator. When there is a risk of freezing or ice formation, the thermostat disengages
the compressor until the temperature has increased.
Condensation that forms on the evaporator is drained through a valve below the evaporator.
For more detailed descriptions of the components and repair instructions, see Service Manual "AIR CONDITIONING, R134a"
and any service bulletins.
