Notes/Narratives
Officers who were on the arrest team proceeded to place into custody as I returned to my position on the front line with the CMT to
assist with moving the crowd of protesters forward.
It should be noted that I did not interview or personally identify . I would describe as a light skinned black male with short
dreads (estimated 1-2 inches long) wearing a black t-shirt with an orange or red picture on the chest, dark gray pants, and sneakers was
wearing a black backpack and had a large camera slung around his neck.
VIOLATION:
was arrested for violating Kalamazoo city ordinance 22-20c Resisting or interfering - Knowingly or wilfully failing to obey the lawful
order or command of a public safety officer, when such person knows or should know said officer to be a member of the Department of Public
Safety or any other police agency.
As previously articulated the crowd of protesters that initially started in Arcadia Festival Site were given loud verbal commands over a
loudspeaker instructing them to leave the area and that a police line had been established. This crowd of violent protesters proceeded to march
down the middle of downtown roadways impeding traffic. The KDPS Crowd Management Team was attempting to move protesters out of the
roadway onto sidewalks as continuous commands were given over loudspeaker instructing protesters to leave the area or they would be arrested.
failed to comply with these verbal commands that had been given over loudspeaker for approximately 30 minutes.
Respectfully Submitted,

INFORMATION:
On Saturday 8-15-20 KDPS was downtown Kalamazoo reference protests. A police zone had been established. Numerous subjects were arrested
who were in violation of the police zone.
OFFICER ACTIONS:
At the time of the incident, I was assigned to an arrest team. KDPS was deployed on N Church St near the parking ramp. While in the area,
numerous loud verbal announcements were continually given by a patrol vehicle PA system. Those announcements were informing subjects that a
police zone had been established and anyone violating that would be subject to arrest.
While moving forward behind the crowd management team, a male subject was identified as not following police orders. He was in violation of
the police zone. Members of the CMT took custody of the subject and began bringing him behind the line. As he was being walked backwards,
he lost his footing. CMT held onto him to control his fall to the ground. I grabbed his left arm and assisted him in standing. I removed his
backpack and held onto his left arm while he was placed in handcuffs. PSO Belen took custody the suspect later identified as .
BODY CAM:
My body cam was activated during the incident.
