Backgrounder

Surfers Point Coffee Co. was founded in June of 2017 by Nicholas Betrus. The Surfers Point
Coffee Co. concept was created after the company's founder traveled through California. Surfing
the waves of Surfers Point at Seaside Park in Ventura, they decided he wanted to build a
company to capture the spirit of accomplishment he felt while riding the waves. He began plans
to build a special company that would bring the surfing experience into local neighborhoods
where customers could find a place to escape each day. On the wave,he saw a group of local
surfers. The beauty and gliding movement of these surfers on the waves in Surfers Point seemed
to be a fitting name for a company that aspired for rapid growth and quality. The company was
founded with the intent of building a lavish, high-volume, quality-driven coffee shop with a
lively yet comforting atmosphere.

Surfers Point Coffee Co. is a privately held, neighborhood-based, specialty retailer of top-quality
espresso-drinks, coffees, teas, juices, bakery goods, and related merchandise. Their goal is to be
the coffee shop of choice for locals, business workers, tourists, and students, by providing a
top-quality experience over any other competitor. The Venturan-based company operated 125
stores in four states by the beginning of 2020 and was estimated to become one of the largest

Location: Sitting on the corner of Shoreline Drive and Ventura Avenue we

are conveniently located just off of the Ventura County Fairgrounds. Our
building is a cozy blue house turned luxury coffee shop. It offers more
than enough space for study tables, lounging areas, a meeting room and a
small stage. We are only steps away from Surfers Point in Seaside Park.

History: Opened in 2017 by graduate student and culinary arts major, Nicholas
Betrus, the coffee shop started as a dream. When Nicholas found out the
building was up for sale he took the golden opportunity to start his very
own coffee shop. With the help of his family in Ventura, Nick was able to
purchase the building and redecorate it to make it more inviting and
lavish. The shop soon became a place for customers to enjoy art,
top-quality espresso-drinks, great tea, pressed juice, gourmet coffee and
baked goods.

Description: Ran by a group of people chasing their dreams and great waves, Surfers
Point is an all around local business owned and operated by California
natives. Our high-quality coffee beans are purchased locally from a
Ventura County roaster and our pastries from a local bakery, Baked
Perfection. We have 25 types of whole leaf tea and we also have 18 other
types of coffee. Customers will enjoy an unprecedented level of service
and a welcoming atmosphere. Our goal is to make sure our products are
the best.

Local Coffee Shop Sheds Light on Underground Talent

Ventura County community members compete for artist of the month at Surfers Point Coffee Co.

VENTURA, CALIF.-- The Surfers Point Coffee Co., a coffee shop in Ventura, California has selected an
artist of the month. Each month Surfers Point Coffee Co. selects a local artist and displays their art around
the coffee shop.

“Giving talented individuals in the community the spotlight they deserve is something that is extremely
important to us,” said Art Director Taylor Smith.”We want to be a continuous support in our local art
community.”

This month Surfers Point Coffee Co. named Ventura native and local Ventura College student, Chloe
Peterson, Artist of the Month. Her art can now be seen all around the coffee shop. Peterson’s pieces
include intaglio prints and paintings.

“I’m so grateful to be getting the opportunity to display my art at Surfers Point. It’s a great atmosphere
and super welcoming for locals to enjoy cool drinks, art, and music,” Chloe said. “It’s also another outlet
for me to promote my work and has so far provided me several opportunities to be seen.”

Smith said Chloe really stuck out this month among other artists because her art is so saturated with color
and unique. She also admires her originality and creative ability. Peterson began her interest in art at the
age of six. She started knitting and later picked up painting.

“As a child, I spent many breaks and holidays at my grandparent’s house. My grams began to teach me
how to knit and how to make scarves,” the Ventura Native said. “For my seventh christmas, I made my
own festive scarf and wore it to my grandparents house for dinner.”

Chloe is also available for commissioned paintings and drawings. Her contact information will be located
at the front register and throughout the store. Her art will be on display until the beginning of April when
the next artist of the month is chosen. Anyone interested in entering the competition can contact Art

Surfers Point Coffee Company Hosting First Annual Latte Art Competition

The Surfers Point Coffee Company will be hosting a Latte Art Competition open to any
participants on Saturday, April 4, from 3p.m. to 5p.m. at our coffee shop on Shoreline Drive in
Ventura.

Who: Surfers Point is business owned and operated by Ventura County natives.
Participants will be VC students and any local member of the community who
register for the event.

What: This is our very first latte art competition, which we hope to continue each year.
Participants will have thirty minutes to complete three different styles of latte art
of their choosing. Artists will not bring their own supplies. Five of our qualified
judges will rank the latte art and decide a winner. The winner will receive one free
specialty coffee drink a day, for one year.
