WARNING: AFTER AN ABORT OF THE ENGINE STARTING SEQUENCE, A DRY CRANK, TO REMOVE
FUEL VAPOURS, WILL OCCUR, ACCOMPANIED BY ECAM MESSAGE:
- AUTO CRANK IN PROGRESS
ON COMPLETION OF THE DRY CRANK, ALWAYS PUT THE "ENG/MASTER" SWITCH
BACK TO THE "OFF" POSITION WHEN INSTRUCTED BY ECAM MESSAGE:
- ENG MASTER OFF.
IF YOU ONLY CHANGE THE POSITION OF THE ENGINE MODE SELECTOR SWITCH
(FROM "IGN/START" TO "NORM"), THE FADEC SYSTEM WILL NOT COMPLETE THE
ABORT. THERE IS THUS A RISK THAT THE ENGINE WILL START. THIS CAN CAUSE IN-
JURIES TO PERSONS.

CAUTION: MONITOR THE START CYCLE VERY CAREFULLY WHEN THE STARTER AIR INLET
PRESSURE IS LOWER THAN RECOMMENDED (SPECIAL OPERATION CONDITIONS).
THIS CAN CAUSE LONGER TIMES TO GO TO IDLE AND HIGHER EGT PEAKS.

CAUTION: DO NOT OPERATE THE ENGINE IF THE FUEL INLET PRESSURE IS NOT POSITIVE. THE
FUEL IS NECESSARY TO LUBRICATE THE ENGINE FUEL PUMP AND THE HMU AND
THUS PREVENT DAMAGE.

A. Do this test:

ACTION RESULT

ACTION RESULT

NOTE: If a starter air pressure is used that is less

than the recommended level, slow N2 accel-
eration and subsequent rpm hangup can oc-
cur.

NOTE: Make sure that you do not go over the starter

limits that follow:
- no engagement of the starter when the
core speed is above 20 percent.
- the acceptable duty cycles can be per-
formed by using one the three following
procedures:
- 4 consecutive cycles, each of 2 minutes
duration with a 20 second rest between 2
consecutive attempts. After 4 cycles, wait
15 minutes to allow starter to cool before
you try a new start or motoring.
- one 5 minute cycle followed by a cool-
ing period of 2 minutes after the first mo-
toring and a 10 minutes interval between
the following ones.
- one 15 minute cycle followed by a 15
minute cooling period before you try a
new start or motoring.
It is recommended to use the 15 minute
cycle only for cooling the engine to do a
borescope inspection.

4.At 20 percent N2, on the ENG panel 115VU: On the lower ECAM display unit, on the ENGINE
· Set the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch to ON. page:
On the upper ECAM display unit: · The AB indication comes into view below IGN.
· Monitor the main parameters N1, N2, EGT, FF. · At 50 percent N2:
On the lower ECAM display unit: The symbol for the starter valve is in the closed
· Monitor the oil pressure. position.
The AB indication goes out of view.

NOTE: Stall, low fan speed indications will show on

the upper ECAM DU. Because automatic
start sequence is being bypassed, abort the
start when parameters are close to or above
limits. See notes

NOTE: Engine light-off will normally occur within 2 to

3 seconds after you set the ENG MASTER
control lever to the ON position. If light-off
does not occur within 15 seconds, abort the
start.

NOTE: Immediately abort the start if a fast EGT in-

crease, followed by slow N2 acceleration oc-
curs. These can be symptoms of incorrect
fuel scheduling, faulty instrumentation, engine

damage, low starter air pressure or too much
engine deterioration.
Monitor the upper ECAM display unit for pos-
sible messages.
You can continue starts with slow N2 acceler-
ation from light-off to idle, and followed by a
low EGT indication (unsatisfactory fuel sched-
ule).
You must correct starts with temperatures of
more than 725 deg.C (1337 deg.F). Normal
start temperatures are less than 500 deg.C
(932 deg.F).
