CRITICAL ANALYSIS on PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATION of EDUCATION

Each one of us needs to be guided. In work, in businesses, in any other companies or

should I say in everything that we do on our daily lives – we have philosophies. In education,
philosophical foundation is of utmost importance together with its psychological foundation also.
This will serve as our guide as a teacher in dealing with our students and even to our co-teachers.

With this philosophical foundation as our guiding principle, we will be able to treat our
students well and we will be able to understand their differences which I think is really essential
for the teacher to portray. Being understanding to each other because we cannot deny the fact that
our students are coming from all walks of life. This too also will help our students examined
themselves even give a chance for them to learn on their own by observing ones philosophy and
existence.

Philosophy also can help students learn not just based on their personal experience through
thinking and observing but also it can help them learn on their founded knowledge, beliefs, values
and ideas. This will also somehow mold students and be able them to be aware why they exist and
that what are the reasons for their existence.

So, these are some of the reasons why we study philosophical foundation of education. As
a matter of fact, with the system of education that we have, the highest achievement one can have
in terms of education is to be Doctor in Philosophy (Ph.D). This just shows how importance the
study of philosophy is. And that we should know and instill it in our hearts so that we will become
not just as an effective teacher but also a teacher who can develop students holistically through
applying the philosophical foundation of education.
CRITICAL ANALYSIS on PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATION of EDUCATION

As a human being, there are a lot of factors that attribute who we are and what we are.
Knowledge, skills, attitude are the ones we aim for that is why we seek for education. As a teacher,
studying psychological foundation of education is also of utmost importance. Being said to
develop students holistically, it is imperative for us teachers also to apply psychological aspect in
our classroom.

Psychology is one thing to be considered for us to understand our students. It is one way
for us to make them feel that we are for them and that we support them. Through this psychology
we will be able to assess and check students on their needs and that it will give us idea on what to
do. In other words, psychology promotes teaching and learning. One thing to be studied in
psychology is how people learn and retain knowledge. In result, it will give as a concept as to what
classroom teaching strategies appropriate for them that we should be utilizing.

We know that as a person, we too are psychological being, that is why psychology courses
are included in every program in tertiary education. This psychological aspect of a student will aid
us in knowing what and who our students are in terms of their learning styles and with that
appropriate teaching strategies be applied.

In summary, with the inclusion of psychology this improves the learning process and
promote educational success for all students.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS on SOCIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION of EDUCATION

We are social being. In a day to day basis, we interact to people – in our home, church,
school and in the community. It is innate of people to interact and be able to understand each
other’s differences. One cannot deny the fact that we need each other that’s why we socialize.

In Education, one of the important aspects that serves as its foundation is the sociological
aspect. Apart from education is the center of learning, innovation and invention, it is also the
center of socialization and interaction. That is why sociology classes are being required as a part of
each course prospectus to enhance students’ sociological perspective and be able to understand
each sociological background.

Sociology also plays an important role in utilization of various methods of teaching. The
use of project method, socialized techniques, group discussion and techniques of group dynamics
are just few examples of those teaching method. These methods are good which gives knowledge
to the individual, which will enable the students to adapt and adjust to different social situations.

Lastly, education also is considered to be a social system. It has distinct parts and sub-parts
that each has their own goals. As a support to the argument that education is a social system,
education has a close relationship with the environment, and they complement each other. In
school, we prepare students with living skills, knowledge and expertise necessary for the society
for them to survive and be able to live and be a contribution to a functional society.
