AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM EXIMIUS

AA Dr. Sulit JANUARY 2020 2021
AUTONOMIC NERVOUS SYSTEM • Involuntary regulation of cardiac muscle, smooth muscle,
glandular and visceral functions
• Visceral reflexes and functions below consciousness
• HYPOTHALAMUS – principal site of ANS organization
• The ANS is a two neuron chain from the CNS to the effector
organ
• First neuron – originates within the CNS but does not make
direct contact with the effector organ.
• Second neuron – the ANS ganglion (contains the cell body)
• Axon contacts the effector organ
