Qadi Iyad relates that the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said,

“Recognition of the family of Muhammad is freedom from the Fire.

Love of the family of Muhammad is crossing over the Sirat.
Friendship for the family of Muhammad is safety from the Fire”
Al-Mundhari, Ibn Abu Hatim, Ibn Murdawa in their Quranic
commentaries; Al-Tabarani in Al-Kabir report that Sayyiduna Ibn
'Abbas (RA) asked after the following verse was revealed,

‫قُ ْل َّل ۤا اَ ۡسـ َئـلُـ ُك ۡم َع َل ۡي ِه اَ ۡۡج اًا اِ َّلا ا ۡ ََ ََ ََّّ ََ ِِى ا ۡ ق ًُۡبٰى‬
"I do not ask you for any recompense except
to love my nearest relatives"

“O' Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬, who are your relatives for whom our love is
incumbent?” He said,

‫علي وِاطَة وابناهَا‬

Ali, Fatima and their two sons.
‫َ اَ ۡه َل ا ۡ َب ۡي ِت َو ُي َطه ًَك ُۡم َت ۡط ِه ۡي اًا‬
َ ‫ۡج‬
ۡ ًۡ‫ا‬ ‫م‬
ُ ُ
‫ك‬ ‫ن‬
ۡ ‫ع‬
َ ‫ب‬
َ ِ
‫ه‬ ۡ
‫ذ‬ ‫ي‬
ُ ِ ۡ ‫اِنَّ ََا ُي ًِۡي ُد اۡلّٰ ُه‬
Allah wishes only to remove Ar-Rijs from you, O members of the family,
and to purify you with a thorough purification. [Quran-33:33]

Ibn Jarir narrated that Safiyyah bint Shaybah said: "`A'ishah, may
Allah be pleased with her, said, `The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬went out one morning
wearing a striped cloak of black camel's hair. Al-Hasan, may Allah be
pleased with him, came and he wrapped him in the cloak with him.
Then Al-Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him, came and he
wrapped him in the cloak with him. Then Fatimah, may Allah be
pleased with her, came and he wrapped her in the cloak with him.
Then `Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, came and he wrapped him
in the cloak with him, then he ‫ ﷺ‬said:

‫َ اه ْه َل ا ْۡ َب ْي ِت‬
َ ‫ۡج‬
ْ ًۡ‫ا‬ ‫م‬
ُ ‫ـ‬‫ك‬ُ ‫ن‬ ‫ع‬
َ ‫ب‬
َ ِ
‫ه‬ ْ
‫ذ‬ ‫ي‬
ُ ِ ۡ ‫اِنَّ ََا ُيًِي ُد اۡلَّ ُه‬
Allah wishes only to remove Ar-Rijs from you, O members of
the family, and to purify you with a thorough purification.

Sahih Muslim

Imam Ibn Jarir, Ibn Abi Hatim and Imam Tabarani narrate from
Abu Sa’id al Khudri (R) who narrates from the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬who said: This ayah is
revealed about 5 personalities (1) Myself (2) Ali (3) Fatima (4) Hassan and (5)
Hussain (Allah’s Peace and blessings be upon them all)
" ‫ َر ِض َي اۡلَّ ُه َع ْن ُه ََا َقالاَ قَالَ َر ُسَلُ اۡلَّ ِه ﷺ‬،‫َع ْن َز ْي ِد ْبنِ اه ْر َق َم‬
‫اِني َتا ِر ٌك ِِي ُك ْم َما ا ِ ْن َت ََ َّس ْك ُت ْم بِ ِه َۡ ْن َت ِضلَُّا َب ْع ِدي اه َح ُد ُه ََا‬
َّ ‫اب اۡلَّ ِه َح ْب ٌل َم َْ ُدو ٌَّ ِم َن‬
‫اۡس ََا ِء ا ِ َۡى‬ ُ ‫اه ْع َظ ُم ِم َن الا َخ ًِ ِك َت‬
‫ض‬َ َْ ‫ض َو ِع ْت ًَ تِي اه ْه ُل َب ْي ِتي َو َۡ ْن َي َت َف ًَّ َقا َحتَّى َي ًِ ََّا َع َل َّى ا ْۡ َح‬
ِ ‫الاه ْر‬
" ‫َِا ْن ُظ ًُوا َك ْي َف َتخْ ُلفَُ نِي ِِي ِه ََا‬
Narrated Zaid bin Arqam, (RA) that the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said:
"Indeed, I am leaving among you, that which if you hold fast to them,
you shall not be misguided after me. One of them is greater than the
other: The Book of Allah is a rope extended from the sky to the earth,
and my family - The People of my House - and they shall not split
until they meet at the Hawd, so look at how you deal with them after
me."

Sayyiduna Ibn ‘Abbas (RA) said:

‫بغض بني هاشم واَۡنصار كفً وبغض اۡعًب نفاق‬

“Detesting the tribe of Hashim and the helpers is ingratitude and
detesting the Arabs is hypocrisy”
Imam Tabarani in his Majmu’am Al-Kabir
 ‫ ان رسَل اۡله ﷺ كان‬:‫عن انَ بن ماۡك رضي اۡله عنه‬
،ً‫يًَ بباب ِاطَة ستة اشهً اذا خًج اۡى صلاَ اۡفج‬
‫ اِنَّ ََا ُيًِي ُد اۡل ُه ِۡ ُي ْذ ِه َب َعن ُك ُم‬:‫ اۡصلاَ! يا اهل اۡبيت‬:‫يقَل‬
‫َ اه ْه َل ا ْۡ َب ْي ِت َو ُي َطه ًَ ُك ْم َت ْط ِهي اًا‬
َ ‫اًۡ ْۡج‬
Anas bin Malik (RA) narrates that when the Holy Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬used to
come out for Fajr (dawn) prayer, as he passed the door of Fatimah he
used to say, “O Ahl-ul-Bayt (People of the House), perform your
prayer” and then he used to recite the following verse from the Holy
Quran: “Allah only desires to keep away (all kinds of) impurity from
you, ‘O, People of the House’ and to thoroughly purify you!”

Matlab bin Rabi (RA) that the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said: “By Allah!
Faith cannot enter the heart of anyone if he does not love my nearest
relatives for the sake of Allah and for the sake of the nearest relatives.”

Imam Ahmed, Tirmidhi, Nasai and Hakim have all narrated this.
 ٍ‫َع ْن َع ِلي ْبنِ اهبِي َطاِۡ ٍب اه َّن َر ُسَلَ اۡلَّ ِه ﷺ اه َخ َذ بِ َي ِد َح َسن‬
َ ‫َو ُح َس ْينٍ َِقَالَ " َم ْن اه َح َّب ِني َواه َح َّب َه َذ ْينِ َواه َبا ُه ََا َواُ َّم ُه ََا ك‬
‫َان‬
" ‫َم ِعي ِِي ََّ َر َۡج ِتي َي َْ َم ا ْۡ ِق َيا َم ِة‬
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) narrates:

The Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬took Hasan and Husain by the hand and said:
‘Whoever loves me and loves these two, and their father and
mother, he shall be with me in my level on the Day of Judgement.’

Imam Tirmidhi

‫ قَالَ قَالَ َر ُسَلُ اۡلَّ ِه ﷺ‬،‫س َر ِض َي اۡلَّ ُه َع ْن ُه ََا‬ ٍ ‫َعنِ ا ْبنِ َع َّبا‬
‫" اه ِح ُّبَا اۡلَّ َه ِۡ ََا َي ْغ ُذو ُك ْم ِم ْن نِ َع َِ ِه َواه ِح ُّبَ نِي بِ ُحب اۡلَّ ِه‬
" ‫َواه ِح ُّبَا اه ْه َل َب ْي ِتي ِۡ ُحبي‬
Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (RA) narrates:

The Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬said, "Love Allah for what He nourishes

you with of His Blessings, love me due to the love of Allah, and love
the people of my house due to love of me."
