FADE IN:

INT. COLE HOUSE - AUSTIN’S BEDROOM - DAY

Quiet. Peaceful. The calming morning light seeps through the

thin linen curtain.

Inside an untidy room is a 12-year-old boy lying

uncomfortably on a twin-size bed. He’s still a handsome young
lad despite his severe acne problem. He’s wearing light-blue
pajamas with thin red lines running down from top to bottom.

This is AUSTIN COLE.

Suddenly... a LOUD KNOCK on the door. A woman’s enraged voice

calls out:

VOICE (O.S.)
Austin! Austin! Open your door!

Austin mumbles.

INT. COLE HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY

A woman in her thirties stands outside a closed door at the

end of a dark hallway. This is Austin’s mother, JANE. She
wears business casual clothes.

JANE
Austin!

BEAT... she waits.

Jane seemingly gives up by going down the hall. Nearing the

end of the hallway, she stops. Turns. Looks straight at us
with a fierce look.

INT. COLE HOUSE - AUSTIN’S BEDROOM - DAY

A BEAT...

Then... out of nowhere... Jane BURSTS through the door,

bringing it with her to the ground.

Austin is startled awake by this. He looks around.

AUSTIN’S POV:

Of the broken doorway... then of Jane slowly rising from the

ground.
2.

AUSTIN
The fuck...?

JANE
You’re late.

Austin looks at his alarm. It reads: 6:34 A.M.

With a frantic look, Austin springs out of bed and hurries

out his room to the...

INT. COLE HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY

...hallway, with Jane following behind.

As they walk, Austin stops and rushes back to his room.

JANE
Where are you going?

AUSTIN
I’m not showering.

JANE
What?!

INT. COLE HOUSE - AUSTIN’S BEDROOM - DAY

Austin pulls a drawer open. Inside, his white graduation cap

and gown sits, neatly-folded.

AUSTIN
I can’t. It’s too late. The
ceremony’s probably started.

He takes them out and throws them on the bed.

INT. COLE HOUSE - KITCHEN/DINING ROOM - DAY

Jane rushes in the dining room to the overhang cabinet.

She opens the cabinet and pulls out a loaf of bread, a jar of
peanut butter, and a jar of grape jelly. She places them onto
a table.

She turns and simultaneously closes the cabinet door above

while taking out a bread knife from a drawer in the counter
below.
3.

INT. COLE HOUSE - AUSTIN’S BEDROOM - DAY

Austin opens another drawer and takes out one of his many
neatly-folded uniforms.

A dark-blue blazer with the insignia of the school he goes to

on the breast pocket and khakis of the same color.

He throws them on his bed and quickly undresses.

He throws his pajamas at a corner and puts on his khakis,

then an undershirt, and then his blazer. He then puts
graduation gown and cap on.

Afterwards, he turns back at the cabinet and picks up a

bottle of men’s perfume.

He sprays it on him but it’s empty. Having no other choice:

AUSTIN
(calling out)
Hey, mom!

INTERCUT WITH:

INT. COLE HOUSE - KITCHEN/DINING ROOM - DAY

Jane is in the process of making Austin’s snack.

JANE
What?

AUSTIN
Do you have any perfume I could
borrow?

JANE
What? Why?

AUSTIN
I’ve run out!

JANE
Yeah, okay! Pick any! It’s at the
vanity at my room!

AUSTIN
Thanks!

END INTERCUT.

Austin rushes out his room to the...

INT. COLE HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY

...hallway, immediately turning to a door leading to...

INT. COLE HOUSE - JANE’S BEDROOM - DAY

...Jane’s bedroom. He walks to a vanity table filled with

women’s makeup and accessories. There are about half-dozen
women’s perfumes displayed on top.

AUSTIN
(calling out)
Mom!

INTERCUT WITH:

INT. COLE HOUSE - KITCHEN/DINING ROOM - DAY

Two complete PB&Js sit on a cutting board. She slices the

crusts off.

JANE
Yes?

AUSTIN
You, uh... you got anything less...
girly?

JANE
What?

AUSTIN
Anything less girly?

JANE
What did you expect? I’m a woman,
for Christ’s sake!

Austin sighs. Picks up one of the perfumes.

END INTERCUT:

INT. COLE HOUSE - KITCHEN/DINING ROOM - DAY

Jane puts the PB&Js into a Ziploc bag.

Austin emerges from the hallway, backpack on, fully prepared

for graduation. Jane notices. She’s delighted to see him.

JANE
C’mere.
5.

Austin walks over to his mother. She hugs him. Checks him
out.

JANE (CONT'D)
You look good. Smell good too.

AUSTIN
(laughing)
Shut up.

A BEAT.

JANE
It’s so nice to see you finally
moving to the next stage. In no
time at all, you’ll be in college,
then you’ll have a girlfriend, then-
-

AUSTIN
--Alright, alright, mom.

Jane smiles. Kisses his son on the forehead.

JANE
Well, here’s your snack.

Jane hands the Ziploc bag with the PB&Js inside to Austin.
She looks at him with sympathy.

JANE (CONT'D)
I’m sorry I can’t go to your
graduation. This interview is too
important to let go. Please
understand.

AUSTIN
It’s alright, mom. I understand.

Jane smiles. Kisses Austin again on the forehead.

JANE
Thanks.

AUSTIN
I got to go, mom.

Austin heads for the door.

JANE
Do you have your medicine with you?

AUSTIN
Yes, it’s in my bag.
6.

EXT. COLE HOUSE - DAY

A small, run-down house perched up on a hill. On the bottom

of this hill is a dug-out area meant to serve as a parking
space. An old and rusty TOYOTA CAMRY is parked there.

The door opens and Austin walks out.

He grabs his bike which is sat on the porch. He carefully

walks down the stone stairs with his bike.

He arrives at the bottom of the steps. He gets on his bike

and pedals down the sloped street to his right.

EXT. STREET - DAY

From up high, we see Austin biking down the curvy road which
leads to the busy town square, passing several similarly-
styled houses along the way.

EXT. TOWN SQUARE - STREET - DAY

Austin’s pedaling with all his might, breaking several

traffic laws, overtaking several cars, etc.

EXT. CLEARWATER HIGHSCHOOL - DAY

The faint GRADUATION MUSIC is heard.

The school’s insignia is engraved on a large metallic plate

attached on top of the arch of the front gate.

Austin arrives and pedals in the campus.

EXT. CLEARWATER HIGHSCHOOL - FOOTBALL FIELD - BEHIND

BLEACHERS - DAY

Austin halts as he approaches the bleachers. He gets off his

bike and drops it to the ground.

He peers through a gap between the seats at the stage.

On a projected screen we see the name “JESSE EVANS” and along

side it is a picture of 12-year-old blonde girl with braces.

Crouched up, he runs to the seats. He hides behind the

graduates from the last row.

MURMURED LAUGHTER from the parents on the bleachers.

7.

He stands. Looks around for a specific seat.

In the opposite side from where his standing, on the 4th row,
he sees the empty seat with his name on a paper taped to the
back of the chair.

He runs for it.

MORE MURMURED LAUGHTER from the graduates as well as the

parents.

He arrives at his row. Tries to get to his seat.

AUSTIN
Excuse me. Sorry. Excuse me.

He finally gets to his seat and sits down. He sighs in

relief.

HENRY, the person on his right, whispers to his ear:

HENRY
Where’ve you been?

AUSTIN
Huh?

HENRY
You’re 30 minutes late.

AUSTIN
I know. I overslept.

HENRY
Geez. Even at the most important
times?

AUSTIN
Where’s Hannah?

HENRY
At the front.

AUSTIN
Have they called my name yet?

HENRY
No, but they’re about to.

The PRINCIPAL, a 56-year-old man, wearing a black graduation

cap and gown with a white _____ with gold stripes running
down each side, calls a girl up on stage.
8.

PRINCIPAL
Hannah Lindt.

AUSTIN
Oh, there she goes.

The aforementioned HANNAH walks up to the stage. She’s the

same age as her fellow graduates, she’s pretty, and is a
brunette.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
(to Henry)
Hey, Henry?

Her picture is projected on the same screen.

HENRY
Yeah?

The principal prepares a gold medal and a certificate.

AUSTIN
I’m thinkin’ of asking Hannah out.

Hannah walks up the stage and approaches the principal.

HENRY
Today?

AUSTIN
Well, yeah.

He puts the medal on her. She shakes hands with him as she’s
given the certificate.

HENRY
Okay, man. Have fun.

They pose for a picture.

AUSTIN
If she, uh...

FLASH. The audience erupts in APPLAUSE.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
If she asks you to come just say
you can’t, alright?

She steps down the stage and walks back to her seat.

HENRY
Yeah, sure, dude, fine.
9.

PRINCIPAL
Austin Cole.

HENRY
Hey, dude, you’re up.

Austin’s picture is projected on screen.

He nervously gets up from his seat. He walks to the center

aisle and towards the stage.

He glances at his photo.

He walks up stairs. Walks towards the principal.

Austin looks down to let the principal put the medal on him.

He looks back up at the principal.

The principal whispers:

PRINCIPAL
Smile.

Austin lets out a smile and throws several nods at the

audience. Because of this, he doesn’t notice the principal
offering his hand to shake.

The principal whispers again:

PRINCIPAL (CONT'D)
Hey. Shake, boy.

Austin looks down at the principals hand.

AUSTIN
Oh, sorry.

Austin shakes the principal’s hand.

The principal hands a certificate to Austin and they pose for

a picture.

The CAMERAMAN lifts three fingers up and counts down.

As he puts down the last finger, he SNAPS a photo and a

BRIGHT FLASH blinds their eyes.

The principal whispers again:

PRINCIPAL
Move along, now, boy.
10.

Austin walks back down the stage, down the aisle, to his row,
and eventually at his seat.

He sits down.

AUSTIN’S POV:

Colored orbs float around due to the blinding light from

before.

He blinks several times.

AUSTIN’S POV:

The orbs slowly start to fade away...

LATER

The ceremony has finished. Parents congratulate their

children, take photos with them, talk to teachers.

Austin looks around for Hannah.

He feels a tap on his shoulder. He looks around. It’s Hannah.

AUSTIN
Oh, hey.

HANNAH
Hi.

AUSTIN
Congrats.

HANNAH
You too.

AUSTIN
Thanks.
(pause)
So... you wanna... get ice cream?
Hangout?

HANNAH
Um... sure. You bringing Henry with
you?

AUSTIN
I haven’t asked him yet. I just
kinda planned it just now

HANNAH
Oh.
11.

Hannah sees somebody approaching in the distance.

HANNAH (CONT'D)
Well, here he comes. You can ask
him.

Austin turns to Henry.

HENRY
We’re officially teenagers boys...
(looks at Hannah)
And gals of course.

HANNAH
Hey, Henry.
HENRY
Huh?

HANNAH AUSTIN
Me and Aussie are gonna hang Aussie?
out.
HANNAH (CONT'D)
Wanna come with?

HENRY
Oh, sorry, guys, I can’t.

HANNAH
Why?

HENRY
Gotta get home early.

HANNAH
Not even for ice cream?

HENRY
Tempting... but can’t. I’m really
sorry you two.
HANNAH
Well... your loss.

Hannah walks away.

Austin puts his hand on Henry’s shoulder and moves closer to

his ear.

AUSTIN
Thanks.
12.

INT. DAVIE’S DAIRIES - DAY

A typical ice cream shop. ELEVATOR MUSIC plays on the

speakers. Pink seems to be the theme of the place.

Through the window, we see Austin park his bike with Hannah
holding on behind.

The two get off the bike.

As they enter the store, the overhead bell DINGS.

They approach the counter.

CASHIER
Welcome to Davie’s Dairies, how may
I help you...?

They press their hands against the display and are astonished
by the various flavors

- Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, coffee, thin mints,

blueberry, bubblegum, etc.

They look at the CASHIER. A 20-year-old man that kinda looks

like Napoleon Dynamite.

The two look up at the cashier.

AUSTIN
I’ll have a chocolate ice cream,
please.

CASHIER
Size?

Austin looks at a card with all the different sizes displayed

on it

- Small, medium, large, extra-large.

AUSTIN
I’ll have the medium, please.

CASHIER
(to Hannah)
And you...?

HANNAH
I’ll have the strawberry flavor.
Medium too, please.

CASHIER
That’ll be $12.50.
13.

Austin and Hannah look at each other.

HANNAH
It’s on me.

AUSTIN
What? No, it’s on me.

HANNAH
I insist.

AUSTIN
No, I insist.

HANNAH
I’m telling you, it’s on me.

AUSTIN
On me.

HANNAH
On me.

AUSTIN
On me.

HANNAH
On me.

AUSTIN
(to the cashier)
It’s on her.

Hannah reaches into her gown, for her coin purse.

She takes out a pink coin purse with girly designs on it.

She opens it to reveal a roll of several $100 bills wrapped

around a rubber band.

She takes out the roll and takes one $100 bill out.

She hands it to the cashier.

HANNAH
(as she hands the bill)
Here.

The cashier takes the bill.

AUSTIN
(to Hannah)
Thanks.
14.

Hannah smiles as she puts her money back into her coin purse.

She places it back into her pocket.

The cashier hands the change back to Hannah. She takes it,
places it into her pocket.

The two watch as the cashier scoops up ice cream through the
glass display.

The cashier places the chocolate scoops into a medium sized

cup and the strawberry scoops into another medium sized cup.

Afterwards, he hands the ice cream to Austin and Hannah.

The two take it.

They walk over to an empty booth and sit across each other.

They dig into their desserts.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
So... what’s new?

HANNAH
Oh... it’s the same old stuff.
Well...

AUSTIN
What?

HANNAH
We’re actually moving.

AUSTIN
Wait, what?

HANNAH
Tomorrow.

AUSTIN
Tomorrow?

Hannah nods.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
Why?

HANNAH
My father. It’s about his work.

BEAT... Austin takes this in...

15.

HANNAH (CONT'D)
I’m sorry.

BEAT...

AUSTIN
I love you.

HANNAH
What?

AUSTIN
I love you.

BEAT... Hannah doesn’t know how to reply.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
I planned this. To be a date.

HANNAH
So... Henry--

AUSTIN
--He was in on it. He did me a
favor.

Nothing from Hannah.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
I want you. I was going to tell you
at a later time, but since you’re
moving, might as well get it over
with.

HANNAH
I see...

AUSTIN
Ever since I laid my eyes one you,
I knew it was you I wanted to be
with... It’s the truth.
HANNAH
Okay.

BEAT...

AUSTIN
So...? What do you have to say?

HANNAH
I... I, uh...
16.

AUSTIN
Forget about it. Forget I ever said
that. It was stupid, I shoulda’
known. I’m sorry, I take it back.

HANNAH
Okay...

They continue to eat in silence...

AUSTIN
Hannah?

HANNAH
Austin?

AUSTIN
What do you wanna do?

HANNAH
Huh?

AUSTIN
What’s something that you’ve always
wanted to do all your life but
never got the chance to do it?

HANNAH
Like a bucket list?

AUSTIN
Yeah.

HANNAH
I’ve always wanted to go scuba
diving, sky diving--

AUSTIN
--Anything that doesn’t involve
diving.

HANNAH
Um... ride a rollercoaster?

AUSTIN
How ‘bout camping?

HANNAH
Huh? Camping?

AUSTIN
Yeah, camping.
17.

HANNAH
I haven’t been camping.

AUSTIN
Good, that’s the purpose.

HANNAH
Sure, yeah, I would like to go
camping.

AUSTIN
How ‘bout tonight?

HANNAH
Tonight?

AUSTIN
Clearwater Falls. You and I. We
hang out to celebrate our last day
together.

Hannah decides...

HANNAH
Um... alright.

AUSTIN
Alright.

HANNAH
Alright... I have to ask my parents
first.

AUSTIN
No. ‘Fraid you can’t do that.

HANNAH
Why?

AUSTIN
They obviously won’t allow it.

HANNAH
How’d you know?

AUSTIN
Your father obviously hates me.

HANNAH
Right...

BEAT...
18.

AUSTIN
I’ll pick you up at your house.

HANNAH
You said--

AUSTIN
--I know what I said. You’ll be
sneaking out through your window.

HANNAH
What?

AUSTIN
Then, we’ll go to my place, I’ll
pick up a few stuff and we’ll go to
Clearwater Falls. Simple.

HANNAH
But--

AUSTIN
--Hang on, I need to pee.

Austin gets up and goes to the restroom.

Hannah is left silent...

INT. LINDT HOUSE - HANNAH’S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Hannah sits at a desk in front of window looking out into the

quiet suburban street.

She is writing something in her diary. Something we do not

see.

Then... a beam of light flashes on her face through the

window.

She looks out.

It’s Austin. He has a flashlight in hand and is now wearing

comfortable civilian clothes.

He waves at her.

EXT. SUBURBS - LINDT HOUSE - NIGHT

Hannah’s house is big with white picket fences out front, a

brick path leading to the front porch, and an evenly cut
lawn.
19.

The preferred home to live in for any American family.

Hannah waves back at Austin.

INT. LINDT HOUSE - HANNAH'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Hannah is hesitant. She takes time to decide...

She finally comes to a decision. She will go.

She gets up from her seat, picks up her backpack, and walks
to a dresser.

She kneels down, slides a drawer open, and empties her bag.

She slides the drawer back closed and picks up her back.

She walks back to her desk and fills her bag with a few
things.

- Two books, a Walkman, two cassette tapes, a notebook and

her diary, and a pencil.

She runs into her ensuite bathroom.

EXT. SUBURBS - LINDT HOUSE - NIGHT

Austin, waiting, checks his digital wristwatch.

INT. LINDT HOUSE - HANNAH'S BEDROOM - NIGHT

Hannah emerges from her bathroom and walks back to the

window, turning the lights off on the way.

She puts on her backpack, slides the window open, and gets
out.

EXT. SUBURBS - LINDT HOUSE - NIGHT

Hannah closes the window. She cautiously walks down the roof.

She arrives on the ledge and prepares to jump down.

HANNAH’S POV:

Of Austin giving her a thumbs up.

Hannah closes her eyes... exhales... then... jumps...

She lands on her face.

20.

AUSTIN
(trying to keep quiet)
Are you okay?

Hannah slowly gets up on her feet. Puts herself together. She

gives Austin a thumbs up.

Austin smiles.

Hannah runs to Austin.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
Hi.

HANNAH
Hey.
Hannah gets on the bike with Austin.

AUSTIN
What’s in the bag?

HANNAH
Stuff.

AUSTIN
Okay.

They paddle down the quiet street.

EXT. COLE HOUSE - NIGHT

CRICKETS CHIRPING. OWLS COOING.

They pull over in front of the house.

They get off and Austin walks up the stairs. Hannah just
waits.

Austin arrives at his porch and gets inside his house.

AUSTIN (O.S.)
Hi, mom.

Their silhouettes are seen through the living room window.

JANE (O.S.)
Where’ve you been?!

AUSTIN (O.S.)
I was just hanging out with my
friends.
21.

JANE (O.S.)
Well, it’s late. Go to sleep.

A DOOR OPENING followed by it CLOSING. Austin’s bedroom

lights up.

We hear the sound of Austin RUMMAGING around.

The rummaging stops... his bedroom turns dark... A window in

his room slides open...

Austin gets out with a backpack and a yellow portable tent

strapped around his back.

He closes the window.

He runs down the steps back to Hannah.

He gets on the bike, followed by Hannah.

Austin peddles up the sloped road.

EXT. FENCE - NIGHT

The bike stops. They get off.

They walk over to a fence with barbed wires on top,

preventing anybody from climbing over it.

They read a sign. It says “RESTRICTED” in big, bold, red

letters.

HANNAH
Well... that’s that. Your plan’s
over.

Hannah starts to walk away but Austin blocks her.

AUSTIN
Wait. I didn’t wanna have to use
this...

Austin removes his backpack. He zips it open and rummages

around, looking for something.

After a BEAT... he finds it. Takes it out. It’s a wire

cutter.

He walks over to the fence and starts cutting.

He is able to cut a door-shaped hole on the fence.

22.

He goes through. Takes a flashlight out his bag. Looks back.

Sees that Hannah is hesitant.

Austin shines the dirt path ahead.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
C’mon. Oh, and, uh, bring the bike.

Hannah reluctantly follows, bringing the bike with her.

EXT. RESTRICTED FORESTY AREA - NIGHT

They walk along a dirt path...

The sound of CASCADING WATER is heard, slowly getting louder

and louder as they get closer.

EXT. THE TOP OF CLEARWATER FALLS - NIGHT

They arrive. It’s truly majestic. There is an opening where

moon can be clearly seen shining above, coupled with a
thousand stars.

Austin sets up camp at a safe distance from a deathly fall.

Hannah walks towards the edge.

AUSTIN
Hey!

Hannah turns.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
Be careful. The rock’s slippery.

HANNAH
Yeah.

Hannah cautiously continues.

She looks down the waterfall... 18 feet tall.

She steps back and walks over to Austin who is almost

finished setting up the tent.

HANNAH (CONT'D)
You were a scout once right?

AUSTIN
Yeah, I was.
(pause)
And... there!
23.

The tent is finished.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
You can come inside if you like.

INT. TENT - NIGHT

Austin zips up a tent.

He walks in and places his bag down. He takes out a small,

sun-powered lamp and hangs it on a bar on top.

He takes out a large blanket and lays it on the floor.

He takes out two white pillows and places it down.

AUSTIN
(to Hannah)
Come in.

Hannah walks inside. Zips the tent close.

They squat, facing each other.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
What’d you bring?

Hannah sets her bag no the blanket. She opens it and takes
everything out.

- the books, the Walkman, the pencils, the cassettes,

toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
Is that a Walkman?

HANNAH
Yeah.

AUSTIN
Why a Walkman?

HANNAH
What’d you mean?

AUSTIN
Don’t you have a cellphone?

HANNAH
My father won’t get me one.

AUSTIN
But can’t you buy one?
24.

HANNAH
My father keeps track of the stuff
I buy.

AUSTIN
Oh, okay.

HANNAH
What’s in yours?

AUSTIN
What?

HANNAH
Your bag. What’s in it?

Austin empties his bag.

- three Doritos bags, two chocolate bars, his cellphone,

toothpaste, toothbrush, a water container, a bunch of comic
books, lighter fluid, lighter.

HANNAH (CONT'D)
Wow...

AUSTIN
Wanna eat?

HANNAH
Sure.

Austin opens one bag of Doritos and shares it with Hannah.

AUSTIN
What kind of music do you have?

HANNAH
A bunch of old songs, really.

AUSTIN
Like...?
HANNAH
Queen, ACDC, Led Zeppelin, The
Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis,
Elton John... that kind of music.
You?

AUSTIN
I’ve got...
(picks up his cellphone)
Um...
25.

AUSTIN (CONT'D)
Justin Bieber, Panic at The Disco,
Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, and
a bunch of old artists like,
Michael Jackson, Madonna? How’d
that get there? Anyways, I’ve got
Queen, but I’ve only got one song
of theirs, though.

HANNAH
Lemme guess... Bohemian Rhapsody.

AUSTIN
Yes. And... there’s so much more in
here. I can’t name them all.

BEAT... They eat in silence...

HANNAH
You gonna make a campfire?

AUSTIN
Oh, right.

EXT. THE TOP OF CLEARWATER FALLS - NIGHT

Austin zips up the tent and walks out.

AUSTIN
I’m gonna look for wood.

HANNAH
Okay...

Austin disappears into the woods...

LATER

The two squat at the fireplace in front of their tent.

They gaze up on the twinkling stars...

HANNAH (CONT'D)
Name a star.

AUSTIN
Name a star?

HANNAH
Yeah. I pick that one.

She points at a big star with a slightly red hue.

26.

HANNAH (CONT'D)
I’m gonna call it... Scarlet. Go
ahead, pick yours.

Austin chooses a star. He points at a small one with a blue

hue.

AUSTIN
That one. I’ll call it Zeus.

HANNAH
Scarlet and Zeus.

AUSTIN
Scarlet and Zeus...

INT. TENT - LATER

They prepare to go to sleep.

Austin turns the lamp off and zips the tent close.

They stare at each other for awhile...

AUSTIN
Good night.

HANNAH
Good night.

Austin lays down, facing away from Hannah. Hannah still

watches him.

Then... to Austin’s surprise, she kisses him on the cheek.

She then lies down.

Austin lets out a small smile...

INT. TENT - DAY

BIRDS CHIRPING, LEAVES CLASHING against each other,

CASSCADING WATER...

The sunlight streams into the tent. It’s reminiscent of the

opening scene.

Austin is sleeping, facing up. Hannah is no longer beside

him...

Austin comes to. He sits upright and rubs his eyes, trying to
regain consciousness.
27.

He looks beside him. Sees Hannah’s not there.

EXT. THE TOP OF CLEARWATER FALLS - DAY

The tent is zipped down. Austin walks out.

He stands and stretches... he yawns.

AUSTIN
(calling out)
Hannah!

Nothing...

He looks back in the tent. Sees that her stuff is gone.

EXT. SUBURBS - LINDT HOUSE - DAY

There are several moving boxes out front and two, maybe
three, moving trucks.

We see Austin pedaling down the sidewalk.

He stops in front of Hannah’s house.

He walks down the brick path to the porch and RINGS the
doorbell.

He waits...

Then... the door opens. Austin is greeted by MR. LINDT.

Hannah’s dad.

Mr. Lindt sees Austin standing outside. His face drops.

MR. LINDT
Oh... it’s you. Whaddya want?

AUSTIN
I just want to say goodbye to
Hannah.

MR. LINDT
Alright, I’ll call her down.

Mr. Lindt walks up their stairs.

MR. LINDT (CONT'D)

(calling out)
Hannah! Your friend’s here!
