Coursework Policies - These policies are important - abide by them.

1 All coursework submitted must include: all source material must be cited in the text using
Harvard and a full bibliography of source material (including author, title, publisher and date)
listed at the end of the submission.
2 You are required to meet the word length prescribed in coursework briefs. Writing more or less
than required without authority from the module leader will be liable to grade penalties.
3 Work submitted under a student's name must only be the work of that student. All information
sources must be acknowledged. Plagiarism and collusion are very serious offences and will
render offenders liable to disciplinary action (see University document 'Academic Irregularities
Code of Practice' for full details of the regulatory framework; this is included in the Student
Handbook and is also available on-line.
4 Students must keep a copy of all submitted work for reference purposes prior to the original
being handed in and returned. This will provide proof that the work was completed, in the
event that the work goes astray.
5 The deadline for coursework submission is 4:45pm on the official day of submission. Common
Assessment Regulations for BEng.Hons Degree Courses applies in respect of students
submitting after the specified time.
These regulations are summarised as follows:
(i) Where a student is taking a first attempt at a module and submits assessed work after the
'official deadline' (specified time) indicated in the assessment plan, the work will be graded if
submitted within five working days of the 'official deadline'
 Where a student is making a first attempt and submits assessed work by this second
deadline (i.e. 5 working days after the official deadline), the maximum grade awarded
will be a low pass. Where the quality of the assessed work falls below the minimum
acceptable level (i.e. low pass) will be awarded as appropriate.
 Candidates who have been granted a 'time extension' for the first attempt will have the
same second deadline (ie 5 working days after the agreed extended deadline).
 Where a student is making a first attempt at a module and submits work after the
second deadline (i.e. 5 working days after the official deadline), a grade of zero will be
awarded and examiners must only comment on the work for learning purposes and
return it to the student with a zero grade.
(ii) Where a student is making a referred or retake attempt at a module they must submit work by
the 'official deadline' and they will not be allowed a second deadline. Work received after the
'official deadline' without a 'time extension' will be awarded a grade of zero (0%).
6 Requests for extensions to submission deadlines must be made via email to the lecturer copying
the OA through Notification of Exceptional Circumstances (NEC) form, and must be supported by
documentary evidence.
7 In addition to the hard copy, the electronic ‘Microsoft Word’ version of your coursework must
be submitted to the Module which is located in FNU website; it should be uploaded no later
than the coursework submission date given above. The coursework will automatically be
assessed by the web-based text-match tool, Turnitin. Only one, final version of your work may
be submitted to the Moodle. Once submitted you cannot revise your submission; you have only
one opportunity to submit.
8 The hard copy that you submit will be taken as the primary and only version for grading
purposes, so you should ensure that this is comprehensive and contains all the material that
you wish to submit for assessment; there will be no opportunity to add to the hard copy of
your work once submitted.
