 Brief overview
According to the request of PDTD team for the inspection of structural design work at
Sakura Avenue Project, we are the structure team of Mega Asset Management have
investigated the work submitted by PDTD team. Based on the submitted documents, we have
found some concerning points related the design work and construction work for this project.
Those problems might provide the wrong analysis results for the design and to provide
instability to the structure. We would like to list all the concern points and to request the PDTD
team the recheck on the points as follows:

1. Modeling
 Loading:
- Brick wall load does not include in the analysis.
- Load combinations with the wind load are not correct. The wind loads
in all directions should not act on the building surface at the same time.
This case does not provide the critical condition for the design.

Suggestion:
- Please recheck the applied load on structure. The ground beams are
recommended to take at least 450mm to 500mm of height. Large
stiffness of ground beam is required to provide more rigidity the
substructures. In addition, it is used as the wall to prevent the
displacement of compacted subgrade which supports the ground slab.
- Each combination with wind load should define with different wind
direction.

 Release for the member:

- The release for main steel column H300x300 is not correct. According
the provided report, base column connections are designed to be fixed.
However, in the analysis, base columns are released the rotation to be
pin support.
- The release of diagonal members of the truss are not correct. The release
pinned-pinned should be applied to both end of the members.

2
Suggestion:
- The base connection should consider in fixed. The release of rotation at
the base column should not apply.
- Release all the moment to the diagonal member of the truss are required.
- The bracing cable member should be defined for tension members, and
nonlinear static analysis should be performed.

 Section and connection designs:

- Please recheck all the section and connection designs of all the members
after reconsider the above parameters.
- Please recheck all the design criteria for all the service limit state and
ultimate limit state.

2. Construction work for the ground slab

- According to the discussion, the ground slab is design to be the slab on grade.
However, according the soil data at the location of project is not available, therefore it
is difficult to estimate the bearing capacity for the foundation and to design the
thickness of subgrade to support the ground slab. In addition, the condition is critical
due to the design is functioned for the public area.

- As the proposed structure from PDTD team, the concrete slab is designed to
cast in block which have boundary of the ground beam. For this proposed structure, we
would concern of having low compacting capacity of subgrade. In addition, the problem
of cracking and leaking of water at the joint between slab and beam might occur when
there is differential settlement of the structures.

- Therefore, we would recommend to design the structure that could provide the
suitable way to improve the soil compacting work. According to the discussion, some
ground beam that does not work in necessary for the structures are proposed to remove.
It also provides the easy way to do crack arrangement (cutting joint). The maintenance
cost is also minimized.

3
- All the surface of the subgrade is required to be compacted by the roller truck.
Each layer of subgrade is required to compacted by specification as shown in the typical
section below:

Construction Joint

CONCRETE OF RC SLAB THK >= 120mm

LEAN CONCRETE THK=50mm
COMPACTED M30 THK=300mm, CBR > 95
TYPICAL GROUND SLAB COMPACTED SUBGRADE, CBR > 60

- Minimum thickness of slab 120mm is recommended.

- In addition, due to the ground slab is not attach to the ground beam and some beams
are proposed to remove, so the rigidity of the substructure is reduced. Therefore, it
is recommended the design engineer to reconsider the design of shallow foundation
to resist the instability and to provide enough rigidity. It is recommended to enlarge
the size of footing in order to provide uniform stress distribution at the base of
foundation.
