CROP

MANAGEMENT
OR CULTIVATION
EQUIPMENT
THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF
CROP MANAGEMENT OR
CULTIVATION IS WEED CONTROL.
CULTIVATION REFERS
TO TILLAGE
OPERATIONS
PERFORMED AFTER
SEEDING.
OBJECTIVES OF
CULTIVATION :
 Weed control
 Moisture preservation,
 Soil aeration,
 Fertilizer and chemical
incorporation
 Provision of plant support.
ROW-CROP CULTIVATION
EQUIPMENT

 Rotary Hoe
 Field Cultivator
 Rotary Cultivator
 Weeder
ROTARY
HOE
It consists of “spider wheels”
attached to a spring-loaded
shank.
Shanks
are
mounted
on a
toolbar.
It provides fast
and economical
means of weed
control.
Tines
enter the
soil
pointing
forward.
Wheels
shatter
crust and
pull small
weeds.
The rotary hoe
picks up small
weeds and grasses
that are not yet
firmly rooted.
ROTARY
CULTIVATOR
OR ROLLING
CULTIVATOR
It consists of a
series wheels
with curved,
twisted
blades.
Wheels look like the “spider
wheels” of rotary hoe.
Wheels turn backwards and
have curved slicing teeth.

GANGS ARE ARRANGED TO THROW THE

SOIL AWAY FROM THE ROWS.
The rotary teeth
uproot small weeds
and break soil
crust.
FIELD CULTIVATOR
OR ROW-CROP
CULTIVATOR
It looks very much like a chisel plow.
But it is intended for less severe
working conditions

field cultivator chisel plow

and works at a shallower depth of soil.
Shanks may be

Spring-
cushioned
or shaped into a large C, or G
or S for flexibility.
The shanks
may be
fitted with a
wide variety
of soil-
engaging
tools.
It may be
front-
mounted
to provide the operator
greater opportunity to
observe each row unit.

WEEDE
RS
Weeders are used for
mechanical weed
control,
loosening surface
crust,
crumbling soil,

and spreading manure.

It functions on the
“scratch and blow”
principle.
Tools follow closely the soil’s
surface relief.
Leaves of firmly
embedded plants to allow tools to
move sideways pass.
Only slightly
rooted weeds
are caught
and torn out.
Wings
may be
folded
for
transport
.
