TEXT : MATT 9:16 -17 ESV

16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a
worse tear is made. 17 Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled
and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”.
MATT 9:16-17 ESV

PRAYER
TOPIC: Feasting and Fasting Part 2

INTRO:

Martin G. Collins Comments # 1 on “Parable of the Cloth and Wineskins”

 The new wine represents the inner aspects of a Christian life, and the new cloth pictures
outward conduct and conversation.
 A person's behavior reflects his commitment, seen in the illustration of attaching new cloth to
old clothing.
 The old clothing—our sinful, selfish life—cannot be mended but must be replaced.
 The new cloth is a righteous life.
 The Pharisees' ritual fasting was an old garment for which a new piece of cloth was useless.

God’s new way is righteous and very strong to destroy the SIN,

Martin G. Collins Comments # 2 on “Parable of the Cloth and Wineskins”

 The new covenant cannot be contained in the forms and rituals of the old
 into an old system.
 To attempt to force His teachings into the ways of any other of this world's religions causes
confusion

God’s way and man’s way are UNMATCHED

Opportunity vs Possibility

16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a
worse tear is made.

16-17 He went on, “No one cuts up a fine silk scarf to patch old work clothes; you want fabrics that match.
And you don’t put your wine in cracked bottles.” MATT 9:16-17 ESV Message Version

PATCHING
Patching the old garments with new garment hoping to achieve new result will FAIL because God
wants new and FRESH results , junking the old ones

Worse can happen if we PATCH or Join the old with new garment His doctrines with the old and
corrupt doctrines of the Pharisees hoping to arrived another form would only produce LIE and bad
result making the TRUTH of God become useless

Patching is like a LIFE resolution with no change life but to continue in doing the old lifestyle

25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we
are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27
and give no opportunity to the devil. 28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing
honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. 29 Let
no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the
occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by
whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and
clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another,
tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. EPH 4:25-32 ESV

The old lifestyle will continue

Falsehood, Anger, Dishonest, Stealing, Corruption, Badmouthing, Blasphemy, Bitterness, Clamor,
Slander, Malice, Unkind, Unforgiving

Burying the old life

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life
because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. Colossians 2:12 NLT

Living like a dead

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were
dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved
EPH 2:4-5 ESV

Putting off the Old life

2
BY081620 – 22nd wk lockdown but 21th wk Sunday Live Broadcast

22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful
desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after
the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. EPH 4:22-24 ESV

Maturity vs Infancy

But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.
1 COR 3:1 ESV

Preservation vs Conservation

17 Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the
skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”.
MATT 9: 17 ESV

16-17 He went on, “No one cuts up a fine silk scarf to patch old work clothes; you want fabrics that
match. And you don’t put your wine in cracked bottles.”

Life cannot be a mixture of two opposite principles.

We cannot serve two masters

24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. MATT 6:24 ESV

TEARING is Preserving

When God splits something, it is to remove the barriers that keep His people from Him.

38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. Mark 15:38 ESV

CONCLUSION:
Christ preserved and protected His bride from the World..

And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them
in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. John 17:11 ESV
