Culture, Climate, and Communication

The Continuous Improvement Plan at Rincon Vista Middle School addresses the unique

needs of the students in our community, to create a school culture where our students are

equipped to succeed. Stakeholders such as parents and teachers are made aware of the needs

requiring attention so they can address them in the relationships they build with their students.

Collectively, according to our needs assessment the students at Rincon Vista require support to

comfortably cultivate trust with their teachers, and the confidence they have within themselves.

The Continuous Improvement Plan outlines the expectation for teachers to build relationships

with their students, and has teachers implement surveys to measure their abilities in building that

expected trust. We have also implemented a curriculum focused on social emotional learning,

into our school day. With these two actions, we have created a climate focused on social

emotional learning, which puts the students’ needs first. This has allowed for our students to see

the value in self-care and prioritize their health, while also showing them that their teachers care.

In effect, we hope to improve the two greatest needs defined in our students.

Shared Plan

Our parents are notified of the social emotional curriculum implemented at our school, at

the start of each school year. We explain it to them in a way that prioritizes the wellbeing of our

students, in response to the survey we administer to them at the close of each school year; as

explained earlier, teacher relationships and student confidence are the two areas of focus. Just the

same, teachers are given the expectation to enforce student wellbeing through the SEL

curriculum, and in the treatment of their students always. Teachers are told that everything they

do should support student development and growth and are trusted to do so. The mission and

vision of Rincon Vista Middle School focuses on creating a school community where students

feel safe and supported to achieve to their best potential; “The mission of Rincon Vista Middle

School is to provide parents with safe and nurturing school environments, where their children

can obtain a quality education” (Vail Unified School District, 2019, pg. 2). The relationships

students are surrounded by influence their school environment. Creating a school culture where

student health and safety is put first as defined by the mission and vision statement, ensures the

purpose of the Continuous Improvement Plan.
