INTRODUCTORY MESSAGE

Time does allow us to discover things we haven’t discovered yet. Many were given a belt of lifeline;
many were given a few drops of it. Had it been fate? No one really knows. We come to a certain point when we
did not realize that there are things that matter to us but are likely to be left unnoticed. Hitherto, as we look at
the watch, we apprehended that, time was not likely our friend. Just like how this pandemic reckoned our
patience and made us find out how bewildering the world became. Not to mention, the courage we have had
come in a buoyant form.

Regardless of the dread CoViD-19 had brought us up, education must continue AS LEARNING IS THE
ONLY WAY WE HAVE TO ARRIVE AT A CONCLUSION THAT WE ARE USEFUL HUMAN BEINGS.

World literature materialized around the leap of the era. However, thinking about literature with
reference to “world,” however defined, can be traced back to at least two hundred years earlier. The end of the
Cold War and the rise of non-Western economies, the dawn of a global literary marketplace and the
proliferation of digital platforms are seen as some of its prerequisites. In general terms, the amplification of
world literature can be seen to reflect the rapid integration of the world making us become aware of different
cultures and traditions. As a field of inquiry, world literature continues to grow in response to the problems
encountered by us, teachers, you, students, and readers in our daily contact with literature.

Literature is a way for us to hear the expressions of the past and work with the present.   It is a way for
the present to connect to the future.  Story telling is one way for humans to reach out to other humans.   It is
therapy, confession, entertainment, and knowledge all in one.

We mug up about history we didn't experience, customs we are not familiar with or that lead to what
we do and perform now, hear voices of men, women, children, dragons, elves, slaves, aliens, and other
characters in order to trigger imagination.

We learn to think outside the literal box by reading.  We can also relate to a character, real or fictional,
that may have or is going through an experience like us.  Or who is going through an experience that we would
like to have or through an experience we would like to avoid.

Side by side with learning world literature, should you be developing your English skills as well – writing,
reading, speaking and listening for you to be equipped to Senior High School.

Bon voyage! Enjoy learning the most interesting chapter of English in Junior High School.
