OH&S Policies and procedures
Selecting and using proper tools and equipment
Procedures of commissioning
Planning and preparing commissioning procedures
Documenting final operating parameters and settings.
This guide will also assist you to attain the learning outcome stated in the cover
page. Specifically, upon completion of this Learning Guide, you will be able to –
3. Read the information written in the “Information Sheets 1”. Try to understand
what are being discussed. Ask you teacher for assistance if you have hard time
understanding them.
5. Ask from your teacher the key to correction (key answers) or you can request
your teacher to correct your work. (You are to get the key answer only after you
finished answering the Self-check 1).
7. Submit your accomplished Self-check. This will form part of your training
portfolio.
8. Read the information written in the “Information Sheet 2”. Try to understand what
are being discussed. Ask you teacher for assistance if you have hard time
understanding them.
10. Ask from your teacher the key to correction (key answers) or you can request
your teacher to correct your work. (You are to get the key answer only after you
finished answering the Self-check 2).
11. Read the information written in the “Information Sheets 3,4 and 5”. Try to
understand what are being discussed. Ask you teacher for assistance if you have
hard time understanding them.
13. Ask from your teacher the key to correction (key answers) or you can request
your teacher to correct your work. (You are to get the key answer only after you
finished answering the Self-check 3).
16. Request your teacher to evaluate your performance and outputs. Your teacher
will give you feedback and the evaluation will be either satisfactory or
unsatisfactory. If unsatisfactory, your teacher shall advice you on additional work.
But if satisfactory you can proceed to Learning Guide #25.
The most economical way to start your business using it’s own OHS Policies and
Procedures would be to purchase a OH&S System that come with editable word
documents. This system will provide you with most of the OHS Policies and
Procedures you will need. The organization should know that it must be their very
own obligation to train workers their OHS policies and procedures around the place
of work. Many employees were entirely unaware of the health and safety
procedures put in place by their employer. Some researches indicate that Up to 50
% of the personnel interviewed claimed they had never looked at any OHS policy
paperwork whilst they worked within a company which in fact had a labor force of
several or more people.
Having the correct OHS Policies and procedures will help the organization make
sure they are following correct legislation in order to keep their staff and businesses
safe. They are the best and easiest way to get your business or organization started
with an OHS policy system. OHS Policy templates come in a word document so you
can edit them with your business name and add a logo.

Functional safety is the part of the overall safety of plant and equipment that
depends on the correct functioning of safety-related systems and other risk reduction
measures such as safety instrumented systems (SIS), alarm systems and basic
process control systems (BPCS).
S IS
SIS are instrumented systems that provide a significant level of risk reduction against
accident hazards. They typically consist of sensors and logic functions that detect a
dangerous condition and final elements, such as valves, that are manipulated to
achieve a safe state.
Alarm Systems
In certain limited cases, alarm systems may provide significant accident risk
reduction, where they also might be considered as a SIS.
BPCS
BPCS are normally designed for flexible and complex operation and to maximize
production rather than to prevent accidents. However, it is often their failure that can
lead to accidents and therefore they should be designed to good practice
requirements.
The topic of Electrical power systems is concerned with risks arising from
electrical distribution systems and equipment at major accident hazard sites.
Specifically, it is concerned with:
x the management, design, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical
power systems so that they provide the necessary reliability, availability and
survivability and so that they prevent danger to personnel;
x the initiation of major accidents by electrical equipment through fire and
explosion.
Electrically powered hazardous installations such as large-scale chemical
manufacturing processes should be designed to fail to a safe state on loss of
electrical power, however, in certain circumstances it may be necessary to maintain
electrical power to ensure safety. In some situations, partial failure of the electrical
distribution network may lead to more severe consequences than complete failure.

1 Understanding that each project/process is unique, the AMG, Inc., staff takes the
following approach:
x Assemble all information collected during the project's planning, design, &
construction
x Sort project data from the Intelligent P&ID design database into the
appropriate areas:
x Equipment
x Piping
x Valves
x Instrumentation
o Detergent flush
o Acid wash to complete the cleaning process & remove elemental iron
from stainless steel surfaces
x Visually inspect tanks & piping to verify that clean-in-place (CIP) systems are
adequate
SYSTEM STERILITY
x Check rotation
x Check hardware, including wiring, to ensure that each motor starts from the
correct motor control center (MCC)
x Check software addressing to ensure each motor & instrument responds from
the correct icon on the display
x Train operators
x Perform turn-over

All connections for cable screening shall be carefully checked, especially with
regard to earthling at one point only. High voltage insulation testing shall not
damage the instrumentation. Programmable Logic Control (PLC) equipment,
Process Control System (PCS) and Fire and Gas systems (F&G) shall be tested in
accordance with the requirements of IPS-G-IN-290 and IPSM-IN-250 and
Manufacturer’s recommendations.
Systems for logic functions, such as those for alarm annunciation, safeguarding
and/or sequential control, shall be fully tested for correct operation by simulating
process conditions. Connections to (single-pole) double-throw initiating switches
shall be carefully checked for correct action. All settings for initiators, time delays,
etc., shall be adjusted at this stage.
