1. A rigid insulated vessel contains 12 kg of oxygen at 200 kPa and 280 K separated by
a membrane from 26 kg of carbon dioxide at 400 kPa and 360 K. The membrane is
removed, and the mixture comes to a uniform state. Find the final temperature and
pressure of the mixture.

2. Two insulated tanks A and B are connected by a valve. Tank A has a volume of 1 m3
and initially contains argon at 300 kPa and 10◦C. Tank B has a volume of 2 m3 and
initially contains ethane at 200 kPa and 50◦C. The valve is opened and remains open
until the resulting gas mixture comes to a uniform state. Determine the final pressure
and temperature.
