Pass or Fail Cambodia Town Video

Right away, I admired the guy who said, “We grew up in poverty, but we want to

do all that we can to get out of it and be successful.” This really gave me hope and

inspiration because what I have learned about poverty, I know as generational poverty.

A couple who grew up in poverty who has a kid raises them in poverty, then when they

have a kid all they know is poverty so they will raise them in poverty, and so on. This

guy who made that statement was very encouraging to me. I need to do a better job of

thinking that even though we are all different, we need to see the good in everyone.

What I didn’t understand was the senior in high school who was pregnant. She

knew she couldn’t be responsible and have a baby in her life at that time. Then why did

she make the bad decision and decide to get pregnant?

From this video, it emphasized that we always need school. Teachers can be

mentors for us. Peers give us social connections.

I have realized that as I have gotten older, I know the community I have grown up

in more. I know that I am blessed with everything I have.

The question I always ask myself is, why do bad things happen to good people?

People of all races are in gangs. I also realize the importance of family! We all must

love, understand and challenge our family members to be the best they can. We are

connected and intertwined with each other, especially our own family. Our parent’s

childhood impacts the goals for their children and how they raise you in instilling beliefs
and values. I always love hearing about my parent’s childhood. Some of it was good,

some bad and some was just ugly but it gets passed down generations.

In conclusion, I came out of this video with the idea that it's important to advance

school and learning for first generation, Spanish learners and students with a disability.
