Polyanethol Sulfonate used in blood culture bottles?

Sodium polyanethole sulfonate (SPS) is a component in culture media used to

grow bacteria from blood samples from patients suspected of bacteremia. Sodium

polyanethole sulfonate (SPS) also act an inhibitor of humoral and cellular elements that

might interfere with bacterial growth. SPS has also been shown to effect the

complement system and to prevent phagocytosis and leukocyte functions [CITATION Yas10

\l 1033 ]
