I Construction and Components
What is the LBS(load break Switch)?

 A load break switch is a disconnect switch

that has been designed to provide making
or breaking of specified currents.

 The LBS in conjunction with recloser can

detect faults on the line with the control.

 Remote control and status monitoring can

be performed using automation system and
modems.

 The LBSs integrated into the automation

system are the main devices used to
achieve fast FLISR(Fault Location, Isolation,
Service Restoration).

** Surge Arresters are not provided with load Break Switch.
(1) Overpressure release device
It operates when the pressure in the tank increases up to 0.4 ~ 0.6MPa∙G due to an abnormal condition
such as an internal arc.
- Rated gas pressure : 0.12MPa∙G at 20℃
- Normal Operating Pressure : 0.1 ~ 0.4MPa∙G
- Low Gas Locking Pressure : 0.05 ~ 0.09MPa∙G

The shaft of the gas low interlocking device comes forward to prevent manual operations and
the red low gas target located on the bottom of the LBS appears, and all operations are not
allowed when the gas pressure becomes low, when gas pressure is low
(2) Locking Device
The shaft of locking device comes forward so that the operating handle does not operate when the yellow ring of locking
device is pulled all the way down with a hook stick. all electrical and mechanical operations, including remote operations,
are not permitted when the locking device is the locked. Once this ring of the locking device is fully pushed up, all
operations are allowed again.

(3) Position Indicator
The LBS has two position indicators on the front and bottom for user convenience. The position indicator is painted white or
green, and the direction pointed by the indicator indicates the actual position of the contact of the LBS. The above picture
shows the closed state.
(4) Receptacle for Control Cable
Through this cable, the control output signals to the LBS, the status signals of the LBS, and the secondary output of the
built-in voltage and current sensors are connected to the control.

When connecting the straight plug on the cable side to the receptacle on the LBS, hold the
straight plug and shake it while rotating the coupling ring on the straight plug. Rotate the
coupling ring sufficiently until the straight plug is not shaken,

Receptacle for Control Cable

(5) Gear Box for Operating Rod
The rod assembly is provided with the LBS to operate the LBS manually from the ground. The gear box connected with the
operating rod is basically installed on the LBS. Six rods and 2 rod guards are supplied and can be adjusted depending on
the location of the installed LBS. Rods are connected as shown in the rightmost picture using a rod pin.
- Rod Guard
The two load guards are configured identically for upper and lower side. They are installed in proper positions on the pole to
prevent the operating rod from bending.

Hole for operating rod

- Plate set for Operating Handle

The plate set for the operating handle is installed at a suitable position in the lower part of the
pole.
Turn the operating handle to the left to open the switch, and turn the operating handle to the
right to close the switch.
The operating handle must be in the center of the plate, ‘A’ position, after operating the LBS.

** If the operating handle is in a different position and the LBS is operated via the control, the
LBS may be damaged or personnel near the operation handle may be injured.

 In addition, copying between operation settings groups is also provided.

 Be sure to save the settings in the File- File Save or Data Backup menu after
completing all settings.
5.2 Settings - Correction Menu

Factors for calibrating the analog inputs of the controller

Firmware download

Factors for battery, initialization of settings and events, and setting of date and time

Factor for calibrating voltage sensors built into LBS

 The correction menu consists of five [Tap] : Factor, Factory Factor, Factory
Phase, Battery/Initial/Time, and Firmware.
 These 5 [Tap] have a significant effect on voltage and current measurements and the
operation of the control. Therefore, these tasks should not be allowed to workers who do not
have sufficient qualifications.
5.2.1 Correction Menu – [Tap] Factor

When replacing the control, manually input the

previous control’s factors and save them in the
new control.

(5)Used to send the calculated factors to the

control or to enter factor manually.

(4)Factor automatically calculated by Win-OP

(3)Check box to initialize factor to default value

(2)Factor stored in the control

(1)Phase voltage that factor is applied

 The left part of the window is for phase voltage and the right part is for the phase
angle of phase voltage.
 If the ‘control’ item of the (2) part is 10000, it indicates that the corresponding phase has
default factor. If factors of the (2) part is not the default value, initialize these factors first and
then perform automatic calibration. Otherwise, the wrong factor can be calculated.
5.2.2 Correction Menu – [Tap] Battery/Initial/Time

(2) Used to synchronize with the computer connected

using the date and time by clicking the Sync. Save
button

(3) Check box for initializing settings and event history

stored in the control
** It is mainly used for maintenance or factory setting
purposes.

(4) The window is used to select the item to be initialized

(1) For measuring battery and charger condition. by checking the checkbox of (2) part

 On the screen (4), RTU SET is for initializing all parameters of global and each operation
settings group, DNP SET and IEC SET for the settings related to communication protocol,
and Physical SET for communication network and port.

 In the initialization screen (4), an inadvertent initialization operation can perform an undesired
initialization of the settings stored in the control.
 Be sure to perform a data backup of all the settings and the factors in the File - Backup
menu in advance.
5.2.3 Settings - Correction Menu – [Tap] Firmware

 Use to update the firmware of the control.

 Click the Hex File Open button on the right side of the window to open the file to
be downloaded, then click the Hex File Write button to download the file to the
control.
 During the download, the connection to the control must be stable, and the
control must be supplied with stable power.
 When downloading the firmware, the procedure recommended by the manufacturer
must be followed for proper updating.
5.3. View Menu
 View Menu
 This menu includes the submenus of Monitor and Watch.
 The Monitor menu provides frame monitoring for DNP3.0 protocol to verify
communication between the master station and the control.
 The watch menu provides frame monitoring for Modbus protocol to verify
communication between the Win-OP and the control.
V Installation and Inspection
 Pre-Installation Checklist
 Connect the control cable to the LBS and control before installation, and check
whether they are operating normally.
 After turning on the DC power switch,
 Status check: Main contact position, gas status, trip lever status
 Finally make the LBS open after opening and closing operation, .
 Make the following settings to prevent unwanted operation during installation.
 Turn on the protection blocked.
 Turn off the sectionalizing enabled.
 Post-installation checklist
 Make sure that they are securely connected after connecting the AC power and
control cables.
 Make sure that the ground is secure.
 Turn on the AC circuit breaker and DC power switch.
 Make sure that the run indicator blinks periodically.
 Make sure that the AC power indicator is lit.
 Make sure that the LBS and control status are displayed normally on the front
panel.
 Press the battery test button to check the battery and charger status.
 Press the closed button to close the LBS after turning off the control inhibited
 Operates the LBS via operating handle on rod assembly

 Checking the line status through the LCD Display

 Check three phase load and voltage.
 Check the phase angle of each phase.
 0-120-240(ACB), 0-240-120(ABC).
 Properly select the phase sequence in the system parameter menu.
 Select the source side to RST in the system parameter menu if the reverse
power indicator is on.
 Set the protection blocked to off after completing the settings.
ABC Sequence ACB Sequence
 Setup information related to installation
 Check the rated voltage and frequency.
 The reverse power indicator should be set to off.
 Set the phase sequence properly between ABC and ACB sequence.
 Positive sequence quantity is larger than negative sequence quantity in a
normal line.
 Symmetrical components can be checked on the initial screen.
