• The GCC switchgear market is soaring over the past few years owing to the construction of petrochemical facilities and government
initiatives to decline dependency on the oil industry. This diversification drive has translated into huge government investment to enhance
public infrastructure in the Gulf countries, particularly UAE and Saudi Arabia during 2016-19. Moreover, the introduction of smart
switchgear coupled with increasing demand for energy-efficient management solutions also driving the switchgear demand, hence the
GCC switchgear market has been experiencing positive growth over the last couple of years.
• The outbreak of COVID-19 triggered the situation of lockdown in the region, thus work on several construction sites has been suspended,
Moreover, lockdowns in China and India has negatively impacted the crude earnings of the countries in GCC region. Therefore, the
Governments’ investments in construction would register a subdued growth. Eventually, the switchgear market in the GCC region would

• Gas Insulated Switchgear: The compactness of gas-insulated switchgear enables underground, hybrid, indoor, and outdoor installation,
this is among the major market drivers of gas-insulated switchgear in GCC.
• The demand for gas-insulated switchgear is generating for the transmission and distribution of electricity in the Gulf countries. However,
the high cost of gas-insulated switchgear in comparison to air-insulated has been restricting the segment to grow through 2015.
• The government focus to improve electricity transmission and distribution reliability, increase energy efficiency, and achieve renewable
energy objective, etc. is rising the adoption of smart grid strategy over the past few years. This rolling out several smart grid projects,
which in turn translated into an increased demand for gas insulated switchgear would soar in the region by 2025.

• The indoor installation has been rising over the couple few years due to several characteristics. The indoor installation is more secure,
requires less space, easy maintenance, and requires less cost for operation, etc. are some properties that influence the end-users to adopt
indoor deployment of switchgear in the GCC region. However, the high installation cost associated with indoor, shift consumers'
preference towards outdoor deployment since 2015.
• The governments in GCC countries provide a subsidy on electricity, which leads to higher electricity consumption in the region. To
minimize the gap in demand and supply, the governments have planned to establish additional power plant over the past few years.
Consequently, the demand for indoor installation of switchgear would soar in the forthcoming years.

• Low: Low voltage switchgear segment is expected to account for a maximum share in the GCC switchgear market. Low voltage switchgear
majorly finds application in the residential sector and the availability of low voltage switchgear at less price comparison to medium and
high attracts residential end-users to choose low voltage switchgear. Therefore, it is anticipated that the segment would experience a
rising trend in the coming years.
• The supply of residential units in Riyadh and Jeddah remains vigorous due to government focus for rising residential ownership to 60% by
2020 and 70% by 2030. In the 1st quarter of 2020, about 1800 residential units have delivered in Jeddah and 7500 units in Riyadh, and
more units would supply over the next 5 years. With the surging number of residential units, the demand for low voltage switchgear would
escalate during the forecast years.

• UAE is among the major countries that are driving the GCC switchgear market over the past few years. The UAE government has
announced “Energy Strategy 2050” to augment the clean energy share in electricity generation capacity to 50% by 2050. The development
of solar and nuclear power plants under energy strategy has been mounting the demand for switchgear in the country. The country has
reduced its dependence upon crude earnings to 30% of its GDP in 2019. However, COVID-19 has brought a halt in the construction
activities for a short duration.
• The government vision to increase tourism in the UAE would generate additional demand for switchgear. The government launched the
“Dubai tourism strategy 2020” to lure 20 million visitors each year after 2020 and “Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021” intending to attract
above 10 million visitors every year by 2021. These are among the key factors that mount the construction of infrastructure such as hotels,
