Sample 1: A Visit to the Zoo

Last week, my family and I went to visit ‘Zoo Negara’. I was over
the moon as I had been waiting for the trip since forever. After two long
hour’s journey, we finally arrived at our destination.

As we stepped in the main entrance, a friendly zookeeper, named


Mr Zack welcomed us. There were many animals in the zoo, such as
tigers, monkeys, giraffes and elephants, etc. Mr Zack taught me to feed
the elephants with sugarcane.

I was so excited when I saw two cubs were playing happily


around the field. My father took some photos before we left the zoo. It
was indeed one of the best days in my life.

Sample 2: A Visit to Cameron Highlands

Last school holidays, Edmund and his family left for Cameron
Highlands by car. The journey took about three hours to reach there.

When they arrived there, Edmund’s father, Mr Simon checked in


at a hotel. The room was very spacious and comfortable. They rested
for a while before continuing the journey.

Firstly, they visited the tea plantation. They took some


photographs of the scenic view. Edmund’s mother also bought some
tea to be brought home. Then, they visited the rose farm and butterfly
garden. Edmund was as happy as a lark as he had never been there
before.

It was a memorable experience for Edmund and his family.

Sample 3: A Visit to the Planetarium

Last week, Class 6C went on a day trip to Planetarium. They


gathered around their teacher for a short briefing. After that, they
boarded the bus excitedly to Kuala Lumpur.

After two long hours’ journey, they reached their destination. They
were amazed looking at the majestic building. After getting their
entrance tickets, they made their way into the building. They saw many
space related exhibitions on display. They took some notes and
pictures. The people-in-charge gave them some souvenirs too.

They had their lunch at a nearby park before heading home.


They slept their way home in the bus. They were as happy as the larks.

Sample 4: A Visit to the Beach

Last Saturday was an exciting day for Ben and his family. They
went on an outing to the beach at Teluk Intan. The beach was crowded.

Ben’s mother laid out the food and drinks on a large mat under a
tree for a picnic. In the meantime, Ben’s father spent time resting and
relaxing in the shade. Ben enjoyed swimming while his brothers played
beach ball in the crystal clear sea.

After a while, they were famished. Ben ate the food to his heart’s
content. Later that evening, they packed the things and went home. It
was indeed a memorable day for Ben and his family.

Sample 1: A Birthday Party

Last Tuesday, Beck Chun’s mum threw a birthday party for him.
As one of his classmates, I went to attend the party. When I reached his
house, I was amazed at the view. The house was decorated with
colourful balloons and ribbons.

It was a very fun party. We had lots of drinks and food to eat. We
also played some interesting games, like ‘musical chairs’, ‘poison stone’
and ‘bottle flipping’, etc. After the games, it was the cake cutting
ceremony. We sang the birthday song and Beck Chun cut the cake.

All of us had a wonderful time. We thanked Beck Chun for inviting


us to his special day.

Sample 2: Fire Safety Week

Yesterday, my school organised a talk about fire safety. It was in


conjunction with our school’s annual ‘Fire Safety Week’. Several fire
and safety officers from the fire department came to attend the activity.

One of the firemen, named Mr Sammy explained to us the


importance of a fire extinguisher. He said that each house should have
at least one. After that, he showed us how to use it.

Later, we were told to gather at the school field where a


demonstration would be done. We were thrilled to see the fireman lit a
real fire in front of us. Then, by using the steps he taught us, he
managed to put out the fire easily.

Sample 3: Camping Activity

Last weekend, a troop of scouts from SJKC Kwang Hwa went for
camping at Tati University campsite. After unloading their belongings
from the bus, the camp commander instructed the scouts to pitch their
tents around the campsite.

After that, they were told to prepare lunch by themselves. As the


proverb sounds, ‘many hands make light works’, by working together,
the scouts managed to catch some fish in the river. They used the
branches and leaves to grill the fish.

The next morning, the scouts went for a jungle tracking. Mike and
his friends were so excited to cross a real jungle for the first time. At
night, the scouts set up a campfire. Everyone sang and danced happily
around the fire.

Sample 4: Marathon Race

My school organised a marathon race last Saturday morning. I


love running so I took part in the marathon. The event started at sharp
7.30a.m. I started out smoothly and ran at a steady pace.

Out of the blue, I tripped on a tree branch. I fell down and


twisted my ankle. I was groaning and moaning in pain. Luckily, two
other participants stopped and helped me up. They carried me to the
nearest Red Crescent tent.

I thanked them for their help. They smiled at me and ran back to
complete the marathon. It was such a memorable day for me.

Sample 1: Helping an Elderly Woman

Yesterday, I stopped by at ‘KL Sentral’ train station while I was on


my way to meet my friends. While I was waiting for the train, I saw an
elderly woman was walking down the stairs.

She was carrying so many bags in her hands, so she moved very
slowly. Out of the blue, she missed a step and a lot of her groceries fell
down the stairs. Without hesitation, I quickly came to her and assisted
her to put the things in place.

I helped her to carry the bags and guided her towards the train
track. The old lady thanked me profusely. I myself was very happy too,
as ‘good deeds are better than words when people need help’.

Sample 2: Helping a Poor Boy

Sally comes from a poor family. Her mother sets up a stall nearby
their house. Sally helps her mother to prepare food and attend to the
customers every day after school.

One day, Sally saw a boy crying near her stall. Immediately, she
asked him what was wrong. The poor boy told Sally that he had not
eaten in days. Without hesitation, Sally gave him some food. The boy
thanked Sally profusely. He ate to his heart’s content.

The customers there were impressed by Sally’s action. As for


Sally, she was happy too as ‘good deeds are better than words when
people need help’.

Sample 3: Giving Seats to A Pregnant Woman

It was a bright sunny day. Tasha just finished her tuition class.
After fifteen minutes of waiting, Tasha finally got up the bus. Lucky for
her, she managed to get a seat. To kill time, Tasha took out a
storybook and started to read it.

Out of the blue, Tasha saw a pregnant lady was standing in front
of her, with some shopping bags in her hands. She looked tired but had
nowhere to sit. Without hesitation, Tasha quickly got up and offered
her seat to the lady.

The lady smiled and said thank you profusely. As for Tasha, she
was happy too as ‘good deeds are better than words when people
need help.’

is born in a poor family, he determines to be a successful person one
day. His teachers and parents are proud of his achievement.

He has a timetable to do his revision daily at home. Before doing


any revision, he will complete the homework given by the teachers. In
the evening, he spends his leisure time by reading storybooks.

During weekends, Jacob conducts study groups with his friends


to discuss the problems they have met in their study. By doing this, they
can share new ideas with one another.

Sample 1: Bullying

Amos is a kind and helpful boy. He always helped the teachers to


carry their books to the office. Every teacher praised Amos for his good
behaviours.

Sooner or later, he became the target of the school bullies. One


day, the bullies dragged Amos behind the school building. They asked
Amos to surrender all his money. Amos was very scared; tears were
rolling down his cheek. The bullies laughed and made fun of him.

Luckily, the discipline teacher, Mr Wong passed by. He scolded


the boys for bullying then poor Amos. Then, they were sent to the
principal’s office for punishment.

Sample 2: Cheating during the Exam

The class of Year 5B was so quiet that a pin dropped could be


heard. The pupils were sitting for their final exam. Wai Foo was panicky
because he could not answer most of the questions.

Therefore, Wai Foo decided to cheat. He took out his textbook and
began to copy the answers from the book. He did not notice that his
class teacher, Mr Yap, was walking towards him.

Wai Foo was caught red-handed. Mr Yap then sent him to the
headmistress. Wai Foo cried profusely. He apologised and promised
never to cheat again.

Sample 3: Kidnapping

It started just like any ordinary morning; Simon was walking to


the school. He met and said ‘hi’ to one of his friends, Brandon at the
junction.

Out of the blue, a black Wira came out of nowhere and it was
speeding towards Brandon. A man came down from the car. He tried to
drag Brandon up his car. Simon was very scared. He ran away and
shouted for help. Luckily, there was a patrol car passed by.

With Simon’s help, the policemen arrived at the scene in a blink of


an eye. They arrested the kidnappers immediately. Brandon thanked
Simon for saving his life.

Sample 4: Theft

Last Wednesday, Amsyar’s parents had a party to attend. Before


leaving, they told Amsyar to be careful as he was alone at home.
However, Amsyar ignored his parents’ advice. He forgot to lock the
window. He jumped on his couch and fell into a deep slumber.

Suddenly, he woke up from his sleep. He peeped through the


window and saw a man was trying to enter the house. He screamed for
help from his neighbours.

Within minutes, the police arrived and managed to arrest the


thief. Amsyar’s parents were upset but glad he was safe. Amsyar felt
regretful and promised to turn over a new leaf.

Sample 1: A Small Fire

Last Saturday, Puan Mahani wanted to prepare lunch for her


family. She was busy frying the chickens in a hot stove while singing in
the kitchen.

Suddenly, the telephone rang. Without hesitation, she quickly


answered the call, and it was her old friend, Miss Sarah. They had a
long conversation on the phone and Puan Mahani had forgotten about
her dishes. Then, she smelt something was burning.

Immediately, she dashed into the kitchen. Her blood ran cold
when she saw the stove was burning. She used a wet cloth to cover the
burning stove. Soon, the fire went away. She regretted on what had
happened and learnt a lesson.

Sample 2: Phone Explosion

Last Friday, Jia Ann was alone at home. He felt very bored. So,
he took out his phone and played his favourite ‘Mobile Legend’ game.
After a while, the phone battery was running low. It needed to be
recharged.

Jia Ann plugged in the charger to the phone and continued playing
his game. When the phone was fully charged, Jia Ann did not bother to
unplug the charger.

Soon, the phone became hot and exploded. Jia Ann’s fingers
were burned and injured. He was groaning and moaning in pain. He
was then admitted to the hospital nearby. Jia Ann promised that he
would never play his game while the phone was charging.

Sample 3: Littering

During the school holidays, my parents took us on a picnic at the


beach. Mum packed some food and drinks for us. We left our home
early since it was an hours’ drive.

As we arrived, we were shocked to see the condition of the


beach. It was full of rubbish and the sea water was dirty. We were very
upset. Suddenly, dad thought of an idea. He suggested that we
helped cleaning up the beach.

In no time, we collected all the rubbish and put them in the plastic
bags to be thrown away. Dad told us that it was important to keep our
environment clean as ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’.

Sample 4: Flood

It was raining cats and dogs for a few days. Pak Ali and his family
were worried that it would turn into a flood. The next day, the water level
started to rise quickly and flooded the low-lying areas.

The villagers including Pak Ali were evacuated to the flood relief
centre. Some houses were swept away in the flood and many plants
were died. There were villagers who were taking shelter on the roof
top. They were scared to death as the water had destroyed the village.
Still, they waited patiently for the rescuers to save them.

Luckily, all flood victims were rescued. Everyone was in great


despair. They thanked the rescuers for saving their life.

Last Friday was an exciting weekend for Jack and his family. They
went to experience the ‘Kampung Kuantan Fireflies’ tour. After two
hours’ journey from Terengganu, they reached their destination at
10a.m. As they arrived, Jack’s father bought the entrance ticket.

At 10.20a.m., the boat was ready to take them down the river. Jack
and his family put on the life jackets and got into the boat. As the boat
floated down the river, Jack was thrilled to see the twinkling lights
made by the fireflies. Suddenly, he felt that he was in another magical
world.

After an hour, the tour ended. Jack and his family had dinner at a
nearby restaurant before heading home.

My school organised an annual ‘Sports Day’ last Friday. I took


part in the 100 metre dash. When the whistle blew, I was off like a
rocket and I was in the lead.

Out of the blue, I slipped on a muddy patch on the field and fell
down. I was groaning and moaning in pain. To my dismay, all the
other runners ran past me. I knew that I had lost the race.

Still, I got up and completed the race. When I reached the finish
line, I heard a round of applause. Everyone cheered for me even
though I had lost the race. I was so proud of myself that day.

Practice 3

Azman comes from a poor family. Despite of his family condition,


he was determined to be a successful doctor one day. He worked hard
to pass his examination with flying colours.

When the SPM result was announced, Azman became the best
student in his school with straight As. His villagers made a money
collection to help him to further his studies. He also received a
scholarship from Petronas.

Six years later, Azman finished his studies. He received


distinction result during the convocation. Azman’s parents shed tears
of joy. They were proud of his son’s achievement.

Mei Ling was in bed. She was reading her favourite storybook. She
was fascinated by the story of a dashing knight who rescued his
princess from an evil witch.

Mei Ling could not sleep. She wanted to finish the whole story. By
the time she finished her book, it was already two in the morning. Mei
Ling yawned and fell into a deep slumber.

When she woke up, her blood ran cold. It was already half past
seven. She jumped out of the bed and changed her uniform quickly. She
ran as fast as lightning to the school. Madam Tan was angry when Mei
Ling entered her class late.

Practice 5

Late last night, a row of houses was buried in a landslide that


occurred in Taman Jati. Firemen and medical teams rushed to the
scene immediately after the incident was reported.

As the firemen arrived, they started to dig through the earth to


rescue the residents who were trapped. After three hours, all victims
were successfully rescued. They were transported to the hospital for
further attention. Police were also present at the scene to control the
growing crowd.

It took a few days before the area was cleared. The homeowners
were in great despair. A lot had to be done for them to rebuild their
homes.
