INTRODUCTION:

The course provides learners with knowledge and understanding about major theoretical perspectives
regarding human learning. The course will emphasize major concepts of learning theory in relation to
educational psychology. Learners will engage in critical analysis of theories through class discussion and class
assignments. The course will provide them with opportunities to think about how to apply course material
into their personal philosophy and future practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
In this course the students will be taught about:

i. understanding about the psychology of learning and instruction in relation to general educational
psychology.
ii. knowledge about different theories of learning.
iii. knowledge about learners, learning and motivational theories
iv. knowledge and understanding about reflective, creative and critical thinking in designing innovative
instruction.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

LO1 : relate psychology of learning and instruction to psychology of education and general psychology;
LO2 : design instructions on related subject matters based on classical and operant learning theories;
LO3 : design instruction on related subject matters based on social, cognitive and constructivist learning
theories;
LO4 : integrate learning and motivation theories into teaching and learning, and design related instruction;
and
LO5 : design instruction on related subject matters with the integration of critical, creative and reflective
thinking.

COURSE POLICY/ATTENDANCE POLICY

Students are required to abide by the university’s Academic Regulation pertaining to all matters during their
course of study. Learners are advised to take note that class attendance is very important. Learners who do
not meet the attendance requirement will be barred from sitting for the final examination.

You are expected to fulfill the following requirements of the course to obtain a grade:

Formative assessment will be as below:

2) Discussion 20%
3) Group Assignment 30%

• Discussion & Reflections (40%)

Students are required to participate actively in the forums and reflections which will be uploaded in UNIEV
Virtual OL. Students are encouraged to discuss among each other so as to share experiences and learn
from each other.

• Assignment (30%)

All students are required to submit their assignment(s) on time to gain carry marks for the course. Details
of submitting your assignments online will be outlined for your easy perusal.

• Final Examination (30%)

Final examination coverage will be announced by course leader. Students who are unable to sit for the
exam on the stipulated date must produce necessary document(s) to enable themselves to sit for a
special exam. All arrangements must be made through the Exam Unit.
