SFT3013 Electromagnetism

Dr. Nurul Syafiqah Yap Abdullah

Instruction: Answer all questions, show your calculations.

1. Calculate the magnitude of the force between two 3.60 µC point charges 9.30 cm
apart.
Answer: 12.64N

2. How many electrons make up charge of -30.0 µC?

Answer: 1.872 x 1014 electrons

3. Use Coulomb’s law to determine the magnitude and direction of the electric
fields at point A and B due to the two positive charges, Q = 7.0 µC each.

Answer: Point A: 4.6 x 106 N/C, at 90°

Point B: 1.15 x 107 N/C, at 56°

4. Two point charges, Q1 = -25 µC and Q2 = +50 µC, are separated by distance 12 cm.
The electric field at point P is zero. How far from Q1 is P?

Answer : 29cm
